Starters and main course were great - really enjoyed them. Service was friendly, efficient, helpful, personal, attentive. Price was more than reasonable for was we had. Big disappointment was the dessert. We rarely eat desserts either at home or when we go out. Last night was an exception - the Eton Mess appealed, so we chose to share it, although we both knew that I would eat most of it because my partner has a mild allergy to uncooked strawberries. Eton Mess comprises crushed meringue, whipped cream and chopped fresh strawberries. Especially strawberries. I have no idea what we were given. but it had no strawberries in it. We questioned it, and were assured that it had all the usual components of Eton Mess, but in a different format. But it had NO strawberries in it. I didn't see any whipped cream or crushed meringue either. I didn't eat it. My partner did. Not a hint of any allergic reaction - just something that he said tasted like peach or maybe nectarine. It was just a dessert, the rest was enjoyable - but it was a shame to end the evening that way. We paid and left without saying anything more because it was my partner's birthday and we didn't want to make a fuss. But you asked, so I'm telling you now.
Speedy service but not rushed, lovely fun but not noisy atmosphere, friendly staff and table service, fantastic food and great drinks and fine selection of board games to enjoy after dining. Would absolutely recommend.
Very good food, good cheerful service, okay wine selection, skimped a little one the starters: moule mariniere very nice but no bread! Scotch egg lovely.
The team running the Lyndhurst have really nailed it - friendly, great food with a good range from nicely done burgers to more unusual dishes and reasonably priced, good range of ales and other interesting beverages (including some surprisingly tempting non-alcoholic cocktails). Delighted it's on our doorstep.
Really good food, nice and cool on a hot summers day, and a really good selection of drinks. Would definitely recommend a visit if ever you are in Reading.
Excellent food, great service, cosy and relaxed setting. The Lyndhurst is quickly becoming one of my favourite pubs in Reading - definitely recommend it to others.
Excellent food - I particularly liked the king prawn starter and the truffle mac and cheese. Let down slightly by the selection of beers but I’d definitely recommend based on the food.
For a group of 6 guys who were chattier than average, having not seen each other for a while, the staff were very patient and courteous with us. The food was really tasty and everyone was happy with what they got, and there was a great range of beers on offer including some lovely real ales. The bill was also reasonable, given the beer we consumed, and all round it was a nice place and I would definitely go back again.
Wow Great food, & quick sharpe great service ! Staff were so friendly and made us feel welcome, couldn’t be more helpful. Great experience! Definitely will return.
