Great food, great pub, just a little quiet tonight. When fuller has a great environment but even when quiet a good place to eat. Recommended.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Had the beef which was great. Probably the pricier end of the Sunday lunch scale, but was a huge plate so was worth the money.

I came to the Malt Shovel today for lunch with my husband, son, daughter-in-law and grand daughter of 6months .I was delighted by the pleasant staff and the ambience of the lovely old pub. We were a bit late to sit down as we were delayed by traffic and the fact that Martha was sleeping but the staff were completely understanding and we had a very good table where there was room for Martha's push chair. I enjoyed my crayfish sandwich and salad. As a Coeliac, it was great to see so many gluten free options on the menu and if I come in the evening I shall definitely try one of the hearty main courses such as the belly pork which my husband and son thoroughly enjoyed. My daughter in law was less happy because she is a vegetarian and not a lover of nuts or goats cheese so she chose the rarebit but found the mustard flavouring rather overwhelming and found the breadcake on which it was served went rather soggy. This was the only thing that prevents me from awarding 6 for the over-all experience

Great venue: a perfect country pub. The food is excellent with a really tempting, but not too huge, menu. Excellent service: friendly and helpful staff. Very good value for money too. To be repeated ASAP.

The Malt Shovel is a lunchtime favourite. Plenty of choice on the menu plus great specials. This gastro pub has real charm & an oldie worldwide feel. Fired in the winter & friendly service. Can't wait for the next outing!!!

Lovely meal and great service at the Malt Shovel. First time we've been back since it changed hands and we're not disappointed. Will certainly be back......even if it's just for the Sticky Toffee pudding!

We have been here several times, the food and service are extremely good, there is good choice, including daily specials. The ambience is pleasant, It is, perhaps slightly off the beaten track but well worth it. Strongly recommended

Good food, more choice than just the usual beef, pork, lamb and one vegetarian option. It's tucked away on a dead-end road so you woun't get 'passing trade', you have to actually want to go there. You should because it's worth the effort. Staff were polite and friendly. Got it bookmarked on my satnav.

A very welcoming atmosphere, with wood-burning stove providing plenty of warmth. No rush to get to tables for dinner so time for relaxed aperitif. Excellent menu with good variety and top-quality food. Took a bit more time to get food served from ordering than I would have expected, hence 5 rating and not 6. Would certainly recommend to others. Very friendly staff.
