The Merry Harriers dates way, way back to the 16th century and once you’re inside this charming village freehouse you’ll see the name of every ex-landlord along the walls. A nice touch, we’re sure you’ll agree, and one that makes it clear you’re onto a winner. As you wind along Hambledon Road – south towards Hambledon itself or north towards Godalming – The Merry Harriers invites with a charming, cottage-like exterior, then once you’re inside the warmth of the atmosphere will put you immediately at ease. It’s a fantastic countryside location fit for plenty of occasions, whether that be a large party or spot of private dining in The Merry Harriers’ private rooms.

The food at The Merry Harriers is truly for everyone. As well as being locally-sourced and extremely fresh, most dishes can be adapted to suit dietary requirements. Not just that, the Sunday roast and gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan version are both to die for. In terms of what you can expect from the menu, as we said, it rotates often depending on what local produce is available – most is from Godalming, remember – but at the time of writing our favourite dishes involved a creamy fish pie with cod and prawns, the Goldalming sausages served with mash, peas and gravy, then, of course, the beer-battered cod and chips. The Merry Harriers is truly a gem of Hambledon – a damn good freehouse, pub and restaurant.
