The place was welcoming, warm and friendly - very pleasant and helpful staff. Eating area is a little on the small side but they seemed to cope with ensuring people were seated. Food very good and reasonably priced but my plate was a little on the cool side for me.

Good quality pub food at reasonable prices; good service from friendly and enthusiastic staff and great music. Will definitely come again. Brought along some American visitors who also very much enjoyed the experience. Thank you and see you soon.

A very pleasant cosy room with friendly staff and good food. The menu was varied with lots to choose from and we particularly liked the deal on the Prosecco (I am duty bound to say that other sparkling wines are available!)

Great restaurant, lovely staff and delicious food. We had the three course Xmas meal which was amazing! We picked The Royal Oak out of many other restaurants in York and were not disappointed.

Good food, attentive but not overbearing service. Gave us nice gaps between courses, did not feel at all rushed. Being Valentines day the special menu was on, it was excellent.

Sunday lunch was very disappointing, basically one very large Yorkshire pudding with nothing much else tiny amount of meat and veg! I did complain and it was put right but my husband still had a small plate! Nice old pub on the upside.

Fantastic food served in attractive surrounding. Good service from both members of staff on duty and nothing we asked of them was too much trouble. Definitely going back.
