Food average not exceptional. Not enough staff working the bar had to wait ages for drinks. Only went there as it gave a good review for food.

My wife had the large fish & chips I think next time the small fish & chips would be ample and I had the chicken skillet we both enjoyed our meals. the staff were very good.

Food and beer were good. However, it had the feeling and atmosphere of a chain pub, which I was not expecting. Seemed strangely quiet for a Sunday Lunchtime on a hot summers day.

Excellent food with large portions. Large fish and chips left me stuffed 😃😃. You may need to wait a little as this is not a fast food restaurant.

Made welcome and given efficient, quick and friendly service. Mains came in good sized portions of standard pub fare. Location of course very convenient for Lion Salt works and Anderton boat lift.

Sunday lunch was awful, mainly because the beef was sinuey and sliced too thick, hard to chew and the Yorkshire puddings were far to thin and crispy, won’t be going there again.

There was a slight hiccup with the starters due to the kitchen printer being out of paper but the food was excellent. The local beers on tap were well kept judging by the two I tried. We would go there again if in the area.

Lovely Easter day meal out for 10 of us. The food was lovely and hot. The ladies that served us were really helpful and considerate of the fact we aren't the most organised family.

The salt barge is a lovely place to meet up, enjoy a lovely atmosphere (its very relaxing here) and the food is great. We’ve been a few times now and it is a family favourite place to meet. This time the staff brought out our own homemade cake and candle to celebrate a birthday. Thank you all

Food was OK but very strange gravy on the chicken dinner, more like a pepper corn type of sauce which was all you could taste, service was good. Had gone to check it out for a possible Christmas Booking but have decided against going.

Cracking food and beer, with a lovely atmosphere in the pub as well, particularly as there was no tv and no music. Will definitely be back!

Really tasty food and good service. Sadly I had to ask for mine to be heated some more as it was icy in the middle. Soon sorted and fine from there on. Wouldn't put me off going again

A fantastic, home cooked, meal. Had the homemade nacho starter to share. They were the best nachos I've ever had. Main course portions were huge, chips to die for. Definitely recommend. Will certainly be going again.

Our first visit to the Salt Barge following a recommendation it did not disappoint, we had the roast beef dinner beef was tender vegetables were fresh not frozen if anything we would have preferred larger plates as portions were very generous with the beef, yorkshire pudding and potatoes it was difficult to fit any veg on the plate. The staff were lovely we shall certainly be back

Excellent food, excellent service. Nice pub and great location. Unless you like super hot food, avoid the spicer menu items (fajitas, peri peri etc) as they are very hot.

Lovely canalside pub , friendly staff , with good selection of ales , lagers and wine , at a good price . Pub food at a high standard , and we are quite critical of the quality of food . The chicken fajitas were some of the nicest I've had , spicy but well cooked , moist chicken and very tasty . Scampi and chips were excellent , difficult to mess up , but easily done , good portions with crispy scampi , and lovely chips ( tasted home made ) , huge rack of ribs cooked well and not smothered in sauce .

We were a group of nine - booked for lunch/snack after visit to the Lion Salt Works museum site. Just across the road. Everything went well - staff very accommodating - and the food was good too.

Only 1 of the 4 meals ordered was good, the others being just mediocre. The vegetables were well undercooked, and both the fish pie and steak pie were low on filling and content. The staff were very pleasant but it is not a venue we will return to,

The tables were sticky and the bars covered with unwashed glasses, clearly not enough staff. Booked on line but it made no difference had to wait 20 mins to be asked what I wanted Staff were friendly just to busy Food was not hot Shame really because last visit it was good
