More about the restaurant: The Ship - Tower Hill

If you’ve just got out of The Tower of London, or are in the vicinity of Tower Bridge or Fenchurch Street, why not heave to and hop aboard The Ship, an historic pub right in the heart of the City of London. The Ship’s been under sail since 1802, and though the menu now reflects a more contemporary take on British cuisine, and the gin is free of impurities, The Ship’s Grade II listed premises down Hart Street, off Mark Lane, retains much of the character of its original incarnation.

Thinking about making a The Ship - Tower Hill booking?

The Ship is simply gorgeous, inside and out. Lovingly maintained in order to preserve the charm of this historic London pub, which was launched way back in 1802, The Ship’s Hart Street location (round the corner from Mark Lane) is a superlative spot to take in traditional British hospitality. Indeed, the so-called Upper Deck is an upstairs function and event space that can accommodate up to fifty salty sea dogs and their escorts – with a dedicated bar, flexible layout, arrangements for music, hornpipe dancing, and other entertainments, it’s popular amongst those looking for private hire in the City of London.

The public bar of The Ship is where most tend to wash up, though. The Ship’s excellent menu of modern British pub grub uses only the finest ingredients. Beef from Dedham Vale and pork from Dingley Dell Farm in East Anglia go into dishes like the hot salt beef sandwich and the rib-eye steak with Portobello mushrooms. Besides these hearty options, there are burgers, sliders, starters and small plates ideal for sharing. As for the drink selection, it is also finely curated. The selection of fine red and white wines is something the officers of The Ship are particularly proud of, while regularly rotated casks of quality ale fill the hold of The Ship, which can be found moored down London’s Hart Street, just off Mark Lane, in fair weather or foul.
