It’s always important to make time for a proper pub, and in Folkestone there aren’t too many we’d recommend more than The Valiant Sailor. On New Dover Road out towards Capel-le-Ferne, The Valiant Sailor is complete with pleasant green surrounds, relaxing sofas and open fires. The bar is well-stocked, of course, and the kitchen serves British pub classics for lunch as well as dinner – think liver & bacon; scampi; ham, egg and chips, the whole lot. There’s also a Little Sailor’s menu for the kids as well as the option to order smaller versions of anything off the main menu. There’s little not to love about The Valiant Sailor Folkestone so reserve a table now.
The service was good. The food was only really ok. We had to ask for our vegetables to be warmed up as the cauliflower was stone cold and the broccoli only warm. The chef was apologetic and the veg on the replacement plate was hotter than the surface of the sun. The meat on the replacement plate was nicer than it was on the first plate. For dessert we had the ice cream with fresh fruit - the portion was enormous.
Lovely food served by lovely friendly staff. Excellent value for money. Booked on line for table of 5 . Wanted to watch the England match so that’s why we booked . They couldn’t have been more helpful letting us move chairs and allowing us to eat our deserts in front of the tv .
Very friendly and helpful. Food was pretty good, apart from the steak which was basically uncooked meat straight from the fridge (requested medium rare) - sent back and once cooked was good quality although bizarrely the accompanying mushrooms were still totally raw and had not been in a pan at all.
