The newly redeveloped London Docklands have sprouted some incredible restaurants, bars, and nightspots of late, and one of our top picks has to be the aptly titled Top 1 Forever. Located waterside and accessed from along the Western Gateway, Top 1 Forever is a restaurant that has absorbed and amplified the local charm of its setting in the ExCel Marina. Live entertainment, and a menu packed with British-Mediterranean fusion dishes, are bound to bring your night alive.
As morning breaks over ExCel Marina in the renovated London Docklands, the chefs in the kitchen at Top 1 Forever are busy preparing one of East London’s best breakfasts. Start your day with homemade porridge with cherry, blueberry, or raspberry jam, or go for the full English breakfast. Both are British standbys, and a perfect introduction to this restaurant, bar, and entertainment venue’s classic British offering. With access from the Western Gateway, a short walk from Royal Victoria and Custom House DLR stations, Top 1 Forever is a highlight in this vibrant new London district.
Beyond Top 1 Forever’s classic British dishes, which include a gourmet Marston’s Ale battered fish and chips (with mushy peas and tartare sauce, naturally), the menu at this London Docklands restaurant includes a host of Mediterranean and British-Mediterranean fusion dishes and a mouth-watering selection from the grill. The roast monkfish fillet with wild mushrooms, spinach, and sun-blush tomatoes served with risotto and pomegranate is a perfect example of Top 1 Forever’s fusion chops, while the grill needs a little introduction. Using the famous Josper Grill, admired by chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Gordon Ramsey, and Jamie Oliver, this hybrid grill and oven uses hardwood oak charcoal that brings an inimitable taste to grilled meats, seafood and vegetables. It’s worth taking a trip along the Western Gateway just for Top 1 Forever’s juicy mint and rosemary marinated lamb cutlets alone.
Always a lovely experience when I eat here.... Great food great service. Would just love to see some heaters outside and it would be perfect 😉
