Ponteland restaurants serve up delicious food with a side of history

If you enjoy a little history along with great food, there are one or two restaurants in Ponteland where you can fill up on both. The Blackbird Inn, for example, is built around the ruins of that 14th century ransacked castle and is said to hide a tunnel connecting it to the nearby St. Mary's church. On the food front, British gastropub classics include a starter of ham hock terrine and pease pudding, followed by a main of succulent pork belly with crackling and black pudding.

Indulge in the gourmet restaurants of Ponteland

There's quite a foodie population in Ponteland and restaurants in the area are comfortable catering for those sophisticated palettes. Take Branches Restaurant. Here you can indulge yourself with a starter of crispy duck salad served with a piquant sesame, coriander, sweet chilli and soy dressing, and continue with mains such as garlic roasted chicken breast served with thyme, fondant potato, smoked pancetta, caramelised baby onions and wild mushrooms. Remember to leave some room for excellent desserts like the stunning white chocolate cheesecake with winter berries, raspberry sorbet and a white chocolate ganache.
