Cote is still the best of the chain restaurants anywhere. Especially in Brighton. Standards are always kept up. Its a more than fair price, and changing menus enough to keep it interesting. Plus of course the staff & management. They are wonderful, its always a pleasure to eat there & always with a nice buzzy atmosphere. When I read about chain food outlets doing badly. There is a good reason. its not that people are tired of eating out. Its just that the ones that are in trouble are relying on the same menu's & decor without ever updating. Service and food really good, as usual. Very pleasant waiter. Duck confit and belly pork superb. We usually go to The Cote in Horsham, just as good.
The staff were very attentive and we had two delicious steaks. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and next time we are in Brighton we certainly intend to return

We arrived a little late but were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was packed. Our server organised our free bottle of Merlot (normal price £19.99) that came with the Cote online booking as I have signed up for their online newsletter (be aware that this offer is only available if you order a la carte) and it was lovely for such a young wine. Service was attentive and our meals were served swiftly and were very well presented. Our starters of crab mayonnaise and terrine were absolutely delicious with plenty of bread also provided. The crab was meaty and fresh and the terrine lovely full of flavour and served in a ramekin. Our main courses were outstanding! A hearty fish stew that was full to the brim with mussels, prawns and big lumps of white fish in a delicious and very spicy tomato broth. Be warned that this is not for the faint-hearted as it has a generous amount of fresh red chilli in it! The other dish was a belly of pork on a savoy cabbage with dauphinoise potatoes. The meat was tender, well seasoned and had virtually no fat to be seen. the crackling was this and crisp and every morsel was consumed with delight! We were going to see Goldfrapp across the road so had no time for a pudding, but the list is large and there is something for everyone. Next time we'll leave home earlier! Our bill came to around £48- but since I always reward good service, I gave a £12- tip. Shocking, I know for most Brits to even leave ANY service but waiters get paid minimum wage and work for tips so, reward them accordingly! Highly recommended and so far removed from Cafe Rouge. The difference is travelling Easyjet for four hours at 2am at the end of July to Greece and flying Emirates Business Class to Dubai!
Disappointed this time round. The last time I had the Breton chicken and the duck it was cooked perfectly and the service was good too. However, this time round it was not so pleasant. We requested a table not near the door or directly in front. Although, it was a quiet evening only a third of the tables were taken up however we were given a table right next to the door. Although, there was the curtain to divide it was what we had requested not to have but was given. We accepted to be polite like you do at times. We ordered the calamari and steak tartare. The calamari was soaked in oil and didnt taste all that fresh. For mains the Breton chicken and the belly pork was not cooked well either. The last time I came which was during the day the Breton chicken was cooked perfectly. It smelt, looked and tasted fresh and cooked well glistening a golden brown. This time it was completely flat, no nice aroma and smaller in size. When it came to the table the lady said the weekend chicken. I told her we had ordered the Breton chicken from the a la carte menu and not the weekend chicken on the specials menu. She merely said it's the Breton chicken without any further explanation. The garlic butter was missing from the plate. So we asked for it. When it came to us no apology was given for it being missing. The fries from both Breton chicken dishes were fried more than once and were hard. It was visibly obvious. The pork belly was burnt and overdone. This meant it was hard and chewy rather than crispy and tender. I could not cut it even with the knife given. We didn't want to make a scene thinking maybe the chef may be having a bad day. Day chefs and night chefs were obviously different people. And being a sunday evening. The creme brulee was served cold. Not nice at all. It was obvious that things being slack was present in the restaurant aswell as in the kitchen. The high standards which you usually get on this particular evening were simply not there. At the end of the meaL we did mention it to the waiting staff but they didn't seem to care. Maybe thinking we were after a discount. We were not. We enjoy this place but sadly tonight was a let down. One thing I find rather deceiving is on the bill. The total inclusive of service which is optional is highlighted and larger in size and the total without service charge is small like the rest of the bill. As the service is optional you would think it only fair and right that this is highlighted in the correct way eg without the service charge added being larger as the service is optional. Many probably would not look at the bill and simply pay the larger amount because its bigger. Perhaps, this is why they have highlighted it this way. It's very deceptive and sneaky. The last time we paid the manager at the till he put in the inclusive service charge on the card terminal without even asking us whether we would like it included! If it's optional then it's our choice not his so were not impressed that he did it automatically without asking and without notifying us that he did so. Rather sneaky. Not impressed and most likely will not return at all. So sad.
We were attending a performance at the Grand Theatre Brighton, and as the Cote is less than 2 minutes walk from the theatre I booked a table for the five of us in my party as I new the restaurant would be busy prior to the performance. The restaurant itself is quite large and spread over two levels. We dined in the upstairs which was extremely pleasant, and has a good atmosphere, however if anybody has a disability and problems negotiating stairs, there is no lift to the upper floor so I would advise booking in advance and make sure you book for the downstairs part of the restaurant. As always at the food was magnificent and the service exemplary, On this occasion we decided on the pre theatre menu which ifantastic value for money and two bottles of the Cote house wine one red one white both of which are exquisite and very much the quality I have come to expect from Cote I can highly recommend them. The whole evening was a tremendous success once, again the please pass my compliments on to both the waiting and kitchen staff at the Cote Brightons
The cote Brasserie Brighton. Very friendly staff and great well cooked food. This has become my regular first choice pick of 'restaurants' in Brighton and Hove. My recommendation is make sure you leave space for a desert as the crumble is so good! If you fancy something a little different then why not do what I do; On a warm summers day I wake early in the morning skip breakfast to take a walk along the seafront. Weave through the lanes where the shops are setting up for the day. Then finish of at Côte where I take a morning seat in the window and enjoy crepes with fruit, ice cream and a fresh cup of coffee while watching Brighton wake up for the day. Maybe if you do I will see you there, so a good morning to you. But please leave a space for me in the window. Bx
I ordered the lamb shank on the specials menu & it was fine. Although we are very fond of this restaurant the main course of my husbands meal was disappointing. He ordered the set menu with the pork loin for a starter which was good & the mussels for the main course. A lot of the mussels had broken shells which is not good as you cannot tell whether they were alive before cooking. As he was concerned that they might make him ill he spoke to the person in charge who took them back & got him another plate of them. She said they probably broke when being dished up. We have cooked them ourselves & eaten them in various countries & never had broken mussels served up to us.The next plate arrived with 4 broken ones so he just put them aside. This is the second time we have had this problem with the mussels there & will not be ordering them again.
My wife and I were treating my sister and brother-in-law on their 40th wedding anniversary and we were hoping our visit to Cote would be suitably special and memorable. Happily, our expectations were met in lots of ways. The enthusiastic welcome, and attentive service throughout our stay, meant we could concentrate on enjoying our food and conversation. All of us were impressed by the quality of our individual menu choices which were not only delicious but also presented with care and flair. If I had to point to one downside it was that the first pouting of white wine was not as chilled as it should have been. However, it arrived at the table with an ice bucket, which meant that subsequent pourings were fine. Altogether a really pleasurable experience.
