From Fabio Borini to Emanuele Giaccherini, from Vito Mannone to Paulo Di Canio, the success of Italians on Wearside is variable to say the least. The Italian import that has endured over the years in the UK, however, is the humble trattoria, the ristorante and the pizzeria, the purveyors of home-cooked Italian cuisine that folk the length and breadth of Britain enjoy, and on West Sunniside in the city centre of Sunderland, they swear by Angelo’s Ristorante. They’re situated in a 19th century building, and their menu is suitably traditional, with pasta and pizza, risotto and gnocchi, homemade scialatielli from the Amalfi Coast and ravioli stuffed with mozzarella. Follow this up with locally-sourced meat – steak, chicken breast, belly pork – and wash it down with something from the extensive wine list. This is one of the finest best Italian restaurants in England – they’re consistently listed in the top ten and their chef, Nello, has been named the best – so book a table now.
Quality food well cooked at reasonable prices. Nice friendly staff who were very attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and a lovely setting for a meal. Good choice of wines on offer to suit everyone taste.
Lovely food and good customer service, nice surroundings. Nothing was a problem every little thing was caterered for. Will definitely be visiting Resturant again in the future.
Very friendly staff and wonderful food. The chef's award wining pasta dish is wonderful! The steaks and the mussels were also beautiful. All in all a very pleasant experience. You have to try it!
