Ben’s Canteen – both this one in Clapham and its sibling in Earlsfield – is making quite a name for itself in London these days, largely thanks to its gloriously simple approach. The name of the game is burgers, wine and brunch. Every night after 5pm you can enjoy gourmet burgers paired with boutique wines, complemented further by smaller snacks in the way of duck nuggets and pulled pork nachos to name just two. Then, at the weekend, the Ben’s Canteen brunch features everything from excellent coffee to killer Bloody Marys. It’s as indulgent as it gets and often recognised as one of the best brunches in London. You’ll find Ben’s Canteen Clapham on Saint John's Hill, Wandsworth Town being the nearest train station. The food was very good, tasty, and we used one of their regular offers to include a drink. We booked early on Friday night, so it was not very busy. However, the service was sloppy and not trained, which you could tell. I don't expect much but clearing the table before serving the next course is not too much to ask for. All in all, I would recommend it - more for the food and ambience though.
Food was delicious and so was the wine the service was AWFUL. Although when we got there attention they were friendly we had to constantly remind them of requests. For example our white wine was warm and we had to ask for ice plenty of times, we had to grab their attention to take our order and they forgot our table water twice.
They've changed the brunch menu recently and it's really gone downhill. Would not recommend it anymore, the hash browns used to be delicious and handmade but are now clearly just from a pack of frozen ones and the menu is full of fad items. Very disappointed, used to go regularly at the weekend but won't bother.
