Bistro Aix of North London’s Crouch End is what French dining is all about. The restaurant itself is wonderfully elegant and romantic, not to mention well-located just down Tottenham Lane from Hornsey train station and up from Crouch End Clock Tower. Thanks to this as well as some of the finest French food in North London, Bistro Aix is award-winning and absolutely adored by locals. The owner and head chef has put together lunch and early evening menus as well as an a la carte, all of which are laced with quality and classic French flavours. You then have the impressive wine list on which most wines are organic, biodynamic and sourced from independent producers. Bistro Aix Crouch End is a real gem that’s absolutely worth a reservation in advance.
We found the food of mixed quality. One of our group thoroughly enjoyed her meal; one course we complained about which they did remove from the bill but they didn’t ask about the large amounts of food left from subsequent dishes. Lovely wine. The table next to us were celebrating a birthday and had an extensive FaceTime conversation throughout which was clearly audible. In the end another diner asked them to stop. Shame as the restaurant itself is a nice space.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner. Great service, very romantic setting, outstanding food and wine! The escargot ans foie gras were standpits. Highly recommend. We'll be back for sure!
