Situated right in the heart of the university district and theatre land, Bistro Jacques is bringing some Gallic charm to Liverpool’s Ropewalks. With its classic brasserie-style decor and walls lined with prints by French artists, you could easily feel like you’re dining in a real Parisian bistro, even more so when you try the array of authentic French dishes served up at this Hardman Street favourite. We recommend starting off with the Bleu d'auvergne cheese croquettes with spiced apple compôte and rocket, before moving on to the boeuf bourguignon (a braised beef and smoked bacon stew with chantenay carrots, baby onions, button mushrooms and burgundy sauce served with gratin potatoes). The table was ready for us and on time, the food tasted great (the wine too) and our waitress was friendly and efficient. Not our first time her and definitely will not be our last.
