Again Brown's Exeter did not disappoint. For the first time we used the bar at Brown's for an hour or so before our table booking, and like the restaurant staff, the bar service was very polite & attentive. The bartender came to our table to take our second round order, which was a pleasant surprise, as we had not expected table service in the bar. Some of us had the early evening set menu, which offers great value for money. All 3 courses I had were excellent in freshness, taste and portion size, and vegetarians and those following a gluten free diet are well looked after.
An evening visit for my husband's birthday, though we hadn't realised only the festive menu would be available. Service was excellent. I went from the gluten free menu, and the waitress was knowledgeable in herself, despite being able to just hand me her tablet for me to check the allergens myself. All our meals were cooked perfectly, from the braised blade of beef, to my crispy battered gluten free fish and chips. Definitely will be returning.
Went for a late Monday lunch for our wedding anniversary. We both ate off the set menu, I going for the gluten free version. Service was attentive but not intrusive, and the only minor issue was I felt the music was slightly too loud. To start I had the prawn cocktail, which was made with king prawns, really nice cold crisp iceberg lettuce, and a very tasty Marie Rose sauce. Accompanied by gluten free toast, though I thought pats of butter wouldn't have gone amiss. Sea bass on a bed of potato salad and chive oil followed, the fish excellently cooked, tender with a crispy skin, and I finished my meal with the chocolate fondant with cherry coulis. Dessert was delicious, and properly cooked, tender sponge with a gooey, molten middle. Hubby had beef croquettes as his starter, 3 decent sized crunchy chunky morsels, followed by the minute steak, cooked medium rare. His steak was cooked perfectly, a nice sear on the outside and blushing in the middle, chips were hot and crunchy (I stole one to test!), and the bearnaise sauce had a sharp vinegar kick to cut through the richness. He went simple to finish, with 3 scoops of ice cream, ginger, honeycomb and chocolate. The stem ginger ice cream was impressive, containing noticeable chunks of ginger.
My sister-in-law and I had an evening meal at Browns on Saturday night (15th November 2025). We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. The service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious, especially the fillet steaks! There was live music from a piano player and guitarist which made the experience even better. Well done to all the staff.
Food was shocking! Waitress run ragged clearly they need to workout what they want to be
Music too loud as we were near the speaker and difficult to talk
Excellent service, catered for all my dietary requirements, beautiful restaurant!
A quiet evening at the restaurant. The food was excellent and service great and coped with my wife’s allergy situation without fuss.
Good food, menu very limited due to the restaurant having a busy day.
