The balti is one of the jewels in the British Indian Restaurant scene. While there is a region in Pakistan called Baltistan, and a traditional cooking pot called a balti – somewhat akin to a wok, made from pressed steel and with two handles – is known in that area, but it is in the UK that the dish has come to prominence. The Balti Triangle in Birmingham is the home of the dish, but if you’re looking for a balti in Sheffield, then the curry house that you need to seek out in Butlers Balti House on Broad Lane in the city centre. This restaurant is on the edge of the city centre and is a large venue with an extraordinarily large menu. It takes some time to look over the wonderful options available. I chose the King Prawn Saj special - a hot sweet and sour curry - absolutely delicious and went well with rice. Well worth a visit and open late. Attentive staff.
