Cielo’s opulent premises on Oozell’s Square in Birmingham’s upscale entertainment district of Brindleyplace perfectly frames an evening of unforgettable Mediterranean and Italian cuisine. Cielo is, indeed, Italian for sky, and that’s about the limit when it comes to the imaginative, award-winning dishes produced by the expert chefs behind the scenes in the kitchen. The a la carte menu is classically structured according to time-honoured Italian tradition, with starters, pasta and risotto, meat and fish, sides, and desserts. The antipasto all’Italiana comes highly recommended to begin, followed by agnolotti pasta parcels filled with Porcini mushrooms, sage with a white wine, white truffle oil, and tomato véloute sauce is perfect for the primo course. The costolette d’agnello uses Cornish lamb cutlets – fresh as can be – with cannon of lamb, honey-glazed baby carrots, creamy mash and shallot purée, served with Barolo wine jus. And you really can’t deny the Tiramisu – a capital finish.
