Cigala is a small neighbourhood Spanish restaurant found at 54 Lamb's Conduit Street in London’s Bloomsbury area. At such a location, Cigala is frequented by legal and publishing professionals. Celebrities are (not) spotted there having incognito drinks and tapas. Virginia Woolf and E. M. Forster would go there if they weren’t otherwise occupied. But why? Cigala isn’t flashy. And that’s it – Cigala discreetly offers some of the most authentic Spanish food around, made using the best ingredients, often imported directly from Spain. Then there’s the wine.

Cigala’s owner is also Cigala’s chef. Jake Hodges, formerly of Moro in Clerkenwell,
has created a haven for lovers of authentic Spanish food and wine that is modest in
manner. An unostentatious oasis in the heart of busy Bloomsbury, Cigala is a haven
for the media types (and, yes, celebrities) who frequent the area. But don’t make the
mistake of thinking that Cigala is exclusively for London’s elite. Far from it, Cigala’s
affordable prices means that at 54 Lamb's Conduit Street, infamous tapas, paella
and more are well within reach.
The incredibly well-researched, informative wine list is a strong contender for being the most extensive Spanish selection around Bloomsbury or indeed in London. At Cigala’a 54 Lamb's Conduit Street premises, lesser-known Spanish whites are lined up against the reds you’d expect – plus a handful you wouldn’t – and the list runs through to cava, sherries, rosado, brandies and liqueurs. Deserving of our thanks, Cigala has also efficiently whiled away the years developing an in-house list of Spanish cocktails, should the wine selection prove just too intimidating.
Always good always consistent and nice atmosphere. Have been a number of times and will definitely go again very good standard of tapas and in the lovely lambs conduit street
a very good tapas menu. having been in Granada week ago, this surpassed what we experienced there. a welcoming busy restaurant. consistently good over many years, with a loyal dollowing
Excellent Tapas, very good house wine and a creative and delicious line of deserts. Lively atmosphere but could be a little too noisy for those that want a quiet tete a tete, but fine for us.
This is a fantastic restaurant - really wonderful, authentic Spanish food. On the night we went, there was a staff shortage and the service was a bit slow - but the overall experience was still great.
Excellent food and buzzy atmosphere with a great location! We tried the Menu del Dia for the first time - a great success = will return again soon for tapsa!
Good friendly service and excellent food. It felt like an authentic Spanish restaurant and cheered us up on a rainy London night. We really enjoyed the paella and the atmosphere.
The food was really excellent and on the pavement outside they cook what looks like a good Paella to take away. The tables are a little close together if you're looking to have a private conversation.
Wonderful food, friendly service, gorgeous restaurant in a great location, have been here a few times and it's always lovely. Their set lunch menu is a great deal...but you just have to order extra padron peppers!
This is not my first time here and I love this restaurant. This time, the paella was very salty. I don't think I have had it before so I was surprised. The wine delicious. Very good atmosphere but noisy. Waiting staff were jolly and helpful.
A relaxed and friendly venue. Great food reasonably priced. Felt like a corner of Spain. First visit for me but it felt as though it was full of regulars
Fabulous, authentic tapas restaurant with great vibe. Octopus with mojo is to die for, and even the basics (bread and olive oil) are a cut well above the average.
We chose the Tapas menu, with a carafe of house wine. There's a wide choice of tapas, all very tastey and attractively presented. The service was quick and friendly.
Fast and efficient service, upmarket spanish food, good wine list, own baker; some tapas are a must to try; good atmosphere, busy with doctors from nearby hospitals and institutes.
Fab tapas, excellent wine, v hot padron peppers - oh, and a little Pedro Ximinex thrown in for good measure - all adding up to a great night out!
Given reviews we read about the restaurant, we were disappointed by the food which was average. Dishes we liked: gambas, iberico ham, patatas bravas, baked crab. Dishes we weren't too crazy about: scallops (slightly overcooked), tortilla, paella (rather salty) and razor clams (picked-interesting but didn't bring out the flavour of clams). Manager was friendly and staff helpful.
Lovely restaurant on Lambs Conduit St. Great food, good vegetarian selection and courteous efficient service. Outdoor tables are perfect for a summer evening. Recommended for business lunch as well as friends and family gatherings.
Wonderful food and wine, tapas is fresh, there's a good variety of tapas dishes to choose from. It's not cheap, but the quality of food and the ambiance more than make up for that.
Great food and friendly service. The tapas menu always good and then bigger dishes if that is your thing. Can get full and noisy but if the weather is good there is always outside!
Great location, food and service. This restaurant had been recommended to us due to its authentic Spanish taps so we were not disappointed at all. Well done Jake!
Good to find somewhere open on Sunday evening. Food of reasonable quality, nothing special, but priced rather high. Wine more sensibly priced with a good selection available by the glass or in 500ml carafes. Quiet, but may be different during the week.
Great food and service - not rushed at all - and a good atmosphere. We had a mixture of main courses and tapas dishes which were all excellent.
Great food and service in charming street. The seafood paella is unbeatable and the tapas on offer for the £19 Sunday lunch are excellent as were the desserts.
Excellent location for a client lunch, service was relaxed so don't go there if you're in a hurry. Set lunch is good value for the quality of food.
Booked a table for two for our wedding anniversary, the food and drink was great, as was the service. We were well looked after, definitely recommend this restaurant.
Very good, varied dishes. Despite the restaurant being full, service was prompt and friendly. House wine was very drinkable. An excellent evening in a good atmosphere. Will be back.
Empty at 7pm when we first arrived but slowly filled up - good ambience. Lovely wine, fantastic squid - just sliced straight through, unbelievable bread to start and phenomenal chocolate tart to finish.
Bit disappointed when compared with other visits. I was a little bit late arriving (20:40) but several of the main course dishes were already off the menu. I ended up with my third choice. None of the wonderful homemade bread either
As ever, a really good meal and atmosphere! We come here quite often and have always enjoyed the innovative food and excellent service. We will be back!
Delicious tapas, authentic and tasty. The sangria is a must. Went as a table of 4 and ordered 3 dishes each which was enough for us. Thanks!
High quality food, cooked to perfection. Tasty and great value for money - will definitely be visiting again for more. Great wine selection too and quick service.
Food was great, service was just right. The arroz negro was amazing, as was the sea bream. Vermouth was very good. A great find, I'll be returning.
Wonderful relaxed lunch - good quality and delicious food. Excellent value lunch menu with good choices to select from and a huge paella as a main course.
Great venue and location for a business lunch. The staff were friendly. The food was reasonably priced and our party left extremely satisfied. I would definitely recommend.
This was really great - the food was terrific, the service efficient and friendly, the atmosphere buzzy but too loud. The desserts were especially indulgent and special.
Great food, nice ambience for catching up with friends. Good Spanish wine selection and reasonable price. Located in a nice street away from the hustle and bustle
The food was delicious. Loved the fried anchovies and the chicken livers were superb as was ther rest of the meal. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I have visited this restaurant a number of times and it never disappoints! Great food and service. Lovely atmosphere and staff. House wine is delightful too! I will be visiting again soon!
Great food in a relaxed atmosphere. The service is very friendly and unobtrusive and it's a great place to watch the world go by as you eat. A bit like Spain really!
Relaxed atmosphere was perfect for a lunchtime catch up with a friend. Enjoyed the set menu, and ease of choosing and price. Love that you offer carafe's of wine. Food was delicious.
Excellent food, service and environment as ever. We had a selection of tapas, which were very delicious especially the calamari and the black pudding. Highly recommended.
Great fresh food, in season. friendly and efficient waiters. Good value for money on the set dinner choices Cake slices could be a little more generous
Splendid place - I've been going there for years and they've never put a foot wrong. Friendly service, excellent food. I cannot recommend it too highly.
Amazing restaurant, we have been several times. Friendly service, lovely food and a robust wine list. We are still talking about our dinner 3-4 days later.
Excellent value set menu, classic Spanish dishes, friendly and efficient service, pleasant decor, relaxing atmosphere, great for watching the world go by along Lambs Conduit Street
A very relaxed well run restaurant, a good venue for simple lunch or big night out. Very good food, top wine and nice service, a rarity!
Terrific classic tange of tapas. Lovely friendly service. Top class chicken paella, superb spinach with sultanas and pine nuts. Great choice of wine. Lovely neighbourhood restaurant.
Delicious meal and friendly service. The varied tapas contrasted with and complemented one another well. s The pudding we had was excellent as was the wine
Great food, service and ambience. Nice menu that features both tapas and good range of main courses. Perfectly cooked superb ingredients. Seating both inside and out.
We arrived early and we were well received.Food and wine delicious and attentive but not intrusive waiter. Will return to this all day serving restaurant .
The starter is ok. The main course is too large. we asked one person's portion. But they gave two person's portion. Easy booking, and comfortable environment!
