Nestled between India and China, Nepalese cuisine combines influences from both of its neighbours offering dishes that are nutritious and full of flavour, and at Everest Gurkha Restaurant you can try some of the best that York has to offer, with traditional decor and cosy cushions allowing you to dine seated on the floor for a true Nepalese experience. From Nepal’s most famous dish momos (fragrant spiced dumplings filled with your choice of meat or vegetables and served alongside a tomato chutney) to himali pork (diced pork cooked in an Everest gurkha style with onion, garlic, ginger, fresh spice, chilli and coriander) and plenty of veggie options, there’s something to suit all tastes on the menu. Book a table and head on over to Fossgate in the City Centre!
Two of us visited on Tuesday Evening, having used the online reservation system which was clear and straight forwards. We had a selection of starters and can recommend the chilli momos and deep fried salmon. The place is clean and staff very helpful and friendly. This is my favourite York restaurant. It's a must visit place.
This is fabulous little find if you like Nepalese food. Fantastic food at a very reasonable price and service is really good too. We frequently dine at a Nepalese restaurant here in Melbourne which is absolutely wonderful and I would rate Everest Gurkha every bit as good so give it a go and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did, we went two nights in a row. 😁
Excellent food, nice people. Definitely worth the price. My first experience with nepalese food couldn't be better. If you are in York I recommend absolutely this place.
First time at this lovely restaurant. Beautiful food, friendly staff, nice feel to it. Excellent value. Wonderful experience all round. What more can I say?
The service was friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious. We are not big fans of overly hot and spicy foods, and this was the first time trying this type of cuisine, so the waitress guided our choices and we were happy with what we ordered. We shared 2 starters - momos and a crispy battered chicken dish, both were very good, especially the popular momos. We both had lamb dishes for mains and these were also very tasty. Rice has to be ordered separately but we shared one portion between us and this was plenty for all but the hungriest! I had a glass of their own lemonade which was very sweet but still with a distinctive lemon tang - very refreshing, my other half tried the Ghurka beer which is a lager style, although he is more of a real ale drinker he did enjoy this. Desserts didn't appeal but I did order a cup of the spiced tea, I waited a long time for this as the order had been forgotten and when it eventually came I wasn't that impressed, not sure if they rushed it and didn't let the spices brew long enough or whether my taste buds had been numbed by the meal but I thought it was a bit tasteless. Overall a great experience though and I would certainly want to go there again next time we visit York.
The food was good but the service was slow and slightly chaotic- there seemed to be some very inexperienced waitresses. The beer was good but the wine was not great
