Goole has laid a golden egg up in Howden, with this Chinese restaurant over on the corner of High Bridge and Market Place offering banqueting and a la carte dining options of the kind that locals rely on when they want to eat Eastern. At Golden Cottage, as long as you’re not dining alone, vegetarians can go for the vegetarian special with a starter platter of Cantonese spring rolls, fried seaweed, spiced and salted beancurd, and garlic mushrooms, a second course of lettuce parcels, and a main course of mushrooms in a black bean and chilli sauce, spicy aubergine with cashews, and stir-fried broccoli and cauliflower in oyster sauce. Non-vegetarians should go for either the seafood banquet or the special banquet, an opulent three-course feast covering the classics of Chinese cuisine.
