Jewel Balti is something like the – well, it’s hard to resist – jewel in the crown of casual contemporary Indian dining in Monmouth. Established for nigh on two decades, Jewel Balti has earned a reputation for reliably delicious but very affordable Indian food on Drybridge Street, particularly for their ability to take time-tested traditional dishes and breathe new life into them. You can find premium versions of all the familiar Anglo-Indian favourites here, from sizzling tandoori treats to various biryani meals and of course the eponymous balti in diverse forms. However, Jewel Balti is also a fabulous place to extend your palate when it comes to food, perhaps in the direction of a scintillating South Indian bhuna-style curry loaded with garlic, or a perfectly sweet and sour Monchurin chicken curry. Jewel Balti could hardly be better located in Monmouth, just over Monnow Bridge by Drybridge Park, and it’s well worth a visit for any South Asian food fans in town.
