One of Newcastle’s top Mediterranean dining destinations, Kafeneon in the city centre combines amazingly fresh cuisine with a comfortable cafe-style environment to create an atmosphere that’s comfortable and welcoming for guests from all walks of life. With al fresco dining and a relaxing interior, Kafeneon on Bigg Market provides a setting that’s ideal for catching up with friends or spending time with your family, plus friendly service to boot. During lunchtime, we recommend ordering one of the restaurant’s delicious sandwiches like the Mediterranean melted panini stuffed with cheese, feta, tomato, aubergine and olives, or meze like the grilled halloumi, sweet potato fries, spanakopita or calamari fritti. If you’re in the mood for a hearty main, the moussaka – also available without meat – is a fine choice, as is the pork gyros pita topped with salad and tzatziki. There’s a wide range of dishes to choose from – book your table in advance to see for yourself.
Gorgeous food and very attentive staff. I personally wasn't struck on the almond and pistachio cheesecake as felt consistency was more like mousse and wasn't expecrmting the taste to be so strong.
We went to this restaurant on a Thursday evening at 7pm nice quirky restaurant, very busy but the service was good, food very tasty and lots of variety on the menu with a well priced set meal.
We had the mezze which was delicious, but it didn't seem to be as much food as last time we went. Still good value though, and great service.
