Food was excellent and presented well! Service was slow and unorganised.Starters came before drinks,we also ordered popadoms to arrive with our drinks but they arrived with our starters.Had to ask for new sets of cutlery at each new course after previous set had been taken with plates but not replaced.

The card machine failed - we had to pool cash between us - an annoying end to an otherwise good evening. I see from other feedback that this has happened before. Kalpna must really get this fixed.

Love this place and try to visit every time we come to Edinburgh. So many vegan options - and things that can be made vegan. And all so tasty!

Great food freshly cooked. Good service, we did not feel at all rushed. This is a busy restaurant, it would be best to book

I found it a bit pricey for what i had being a small eater; I would suggest 'small' and 'large' portion pricing. Pleasant atmosphere.

They had a buffet for lunch, only white rice, and three kinds of curry. Needs better selections, and more taste. A biryani would be great, and a vegan dessert.

The food continues to impress both with its presentation and taste. In my opinion, neither are bettered by any Indian Restaurant in the city. The décor, comfort and ambiance are both excellent. However, service continues to be slow, particularly in order taking and delivery of the first course. We waited 40 minutes between arrival and presentation of our starter. The restaurant was almost empty of customers We shall return, but possibly not as often as we might.

No compromise, fantastic food, superb range and beautiful service in beautiful surroundings. A must for anyone who appreciates good food. I am an Ayurvedic sutdent and therapist. It is a complete pain in the bottom to eat out. Compromising means extra work to balance the digestion. Both my husband an I need to consider what we eat becasue of imbalances in our digestive system. We are also vegetarian. And Scotland just loves meat!!! Kalpna to the rescue!!!

Wonderful food, great server and good atmosphere. Would go there again for sure. Make sure Mr. Khalid is your server. Best vegetarian restaurant we’ve been to in a while.

Great food and great service at this restaurant. Nice to see it was as good as I remember it 30 years ago! The Thali was especially good.

In spite of having pre-booked, the restaurant was overbooked and we had to wait an hour for a table. The food was very good but the service was poor.

Excellent food but service not so great - an item that was requested was never brought, but still added to bill. Had to raise this with the staff to have it removed.

The place has had a makeover however it is still authentically Indian. The food was very good as ever and reasonable cost. Good rec of the food etc is having Indian people dining there too. I had two friends from Nottingham here whoi'd been in S India earlier this year and the enjoyed the Kalpna too.Very busy also as ever even on week night tho it was still Festival time. Will def go again and recommend going to others.

We had reserved a table for 2 and when we arrived we were placed onto a table with another couple. Food was amazing, just a shame they try to cram in lots of people into a small restaurant.

This restaurant has a very special place in my heart because it's where my partner and I went for dinner when we started being in a relationship. We come back every year for our anniversary, and it's always an amazing experience. The food is delicious, the service is great, the staff is welcoming and professional, the place is clean and cosy... It is always a pleasure to come here, and I only wish we did so more often.

Food superb but service not so good - unusually as it’s normally very slick. Still a treat though as you won’t find another restaurant quite like this in all of Edinburgh.

A disappointing and chaotic experience. Although we had a table booked it seemed like a first come first served random process of allocating tables. The place was packed because of the festival so I would think it is not like this all year round. There was no waiting area and we had to stand right beside diners' tables. In the end we had to leave and go to the Mosque across the road which was terrific!

Had to queue at door even though we booked. Staff did not seem to be able to cope. We didn't get our food till 1 hour after arriving. They need to be better organised at festival time.

Our second family visit to Kalpna - one vegan and 3 of us who normally eat meat. You don't miss meat when you eat at Kalpna. Delicious food, lovingly prepared, filling and beautifully presented. We will be back!

Very busy restaurant and consequently not very good service. Food descriptions do not live up to the reality. Sauces, spices virtually non-existent, soggy fried food. Altogether very disappointing.

Great vegan and vegetarian restaurant with indian cuisine, the only restaurant in Edinburgh we went to twice. Nice waiters, tasty food. Not the cheapest place in town. (50 BP feed three). 10% service charge.

Although the food here is fantastic unfortunately the management of the customers is not the best. I appreciate that at time all restaurants can be busy but at the moment the Kalpna seems to have got it wrong. Too many tables, nowhere for customers to wait except standing over someone at a very close range whilst they eat or outside. It seems to me that they may be just overstretching themselves at the moment at the expense of the customers. Once seated the staff were friendly and helpful and waiting times between courses was good. Lastly you did feel pressurised to leave once you had finished eating as they had the next incumbents already lined up.

Food excellent but the table was not ready. We had to stand in the front of the restaurant for about 10-15 minutes before we got our table.
