Fantastic food which was seriously let down by the lacklustre service and ancient, shabby decor. Lal Jomi is very proud that it has been in business for 35 years but it should not be so proud of the fact that the decor clearly has not been updated since opening night! In particular the carpet is awful and stained which is not nice in a good environment. There was only one waiter when we arrived but as there were only two other occupied tables this should not have been a problem. However, he was either very forgetful or just didn’t care. When he brought our main courses he failed to notice we had no cutlery to eat with and promptly left the room for several minutes. The wine list was very limited and it was quite difficult to order a glass of wine rather than a whole bottle. We also had to listen to the very loud ringing of the phone and people leaving messages making reservations as the phone and answer machine were located 2 tables away from us in the restaurant itself?! Not ideal when you are struggling to hear your dinner companion speak! Such a shame as the food really was great but in all other respects Lal Jomi really does need to up it’s game. I’ll get a delivery next time!

Great food as always. We really don't use it as much as we should. If you haven't eaten at Lal Jomi then do yours a favour and book a table.

I have not eaten here for a few years, as the last time I didn’t enjoy the meal and the place looked a little rundown. However I am happy to say that although the same layout it has been well and truly spruced up and this time my meal was excellent and the staff were really caring and welcoming, I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone and get a quality experience.

Awful service, dreadful food, expensive, slow - complete disaster. Also the room was cold. Just appalling. I can't think of any more words - nothing to redeem it.

Party of 6 for a family meal. We were asked on arrival if we’d like a booth, it was large enough for all of us and room to move!! Menu is very varied and lots of unusual fish fishes. Very friendly staff.

Regular visitors to the best indian restaurant in town. Perfect for couples and their pickles are the best. Parking can be a bit of a challenge.

The decure may be the same but this is now an Indian cuisine run by ladies, with a friendly but demure service and they do care you are satisfied. Beautiful subtle spices, I could taste the lemon rice. Even the gents loos are pristine. Well worth a visit, we will be returning!

The food is fine but arrived tepid. It took 90 minutes for the main courses to appear. We had to ask for free drinks in recognition of the inconvenience. And all this with the restaurant less than a quarter full. Apparently the takeaway orders seemed to get priority over the restaurant. I will not be returning despite the unusual decor

I have been going to Lal Jomi for 30 years. They have been above the norm for all that time because they care about ingredients and preparation. Our waiter was especially helpful with one of our party who required gluten-free food. Apparently a large proportion of their food is gluten-free. Impressive. The food and service were both very good.

You can never fault Lal Jomi, it’s one of the best curries I’ve ever had and the lovely staff couldn’t be more welcoming. We’ll keep returning here for a long time to come.

Food was excellent and great customer service. Our waitress was very knowledgeable on ingredients, which was particularly helpful with a nut allergy. We'll visit again.

Delicious meal and really friendly service. We had a lovely night with the waitress suggesting new dishes for us to try and even giving us a taster of one of them.
