Restaurant Levante, down Lewisham’s Lewis Grove, brings south London a a whole universe of Turkish food. Expert chefs combine seasonal ingredients from local suppliers to serve beautifully presented dishes in a likeable atmosphere. Besides classic Turkish food we’re all familiar with – kebabs, skewers or pide with different toppings – the menu also offers vegetarian alternatives. If you face the craving for something sweet after your hearty grilled meats and vegetables, different puddings or ice cream will sate the most insatiable of appetites.
Proving the peerless diversity at work in Turkish cuisine, Lewisham’s Levante goes further than most Turkish restaurants. Aside from the well-known kebab, this south London restaurant down Lewis Grove confronts you with a rich menu consisting of food from all over Turkey and old Anatolia as well as dishes exhibiting a strong Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influence. Start your meal with puréed chickpea hummus or different kinds of marinated dishes such as mushrooms, wine leaves or fresh beans. If the menu overwhelms you, you can pick a mixed platter and sample a variety of Levante’s strongest options.
If you’re a friend of meat, Levante’s charcoal grill is your new bestie, with the cooks at this south London gaff ready with the skewers and the flame-tempered skill it takes to delight Turkish food fans with the menu’s many meat-based dishes. Make your choice between marinated pieces of lamb from a skewer, tasty chicken wings or minced meat from the grill. If you are not a grill-type, there are also baked lamb or chicken dishes served with delicious sides. No meat at all? No problem at all! Just order a vegetarian dish such as fried vegetables or aubergines with feta cheese.
This restaurant has a lively and friendly atmosphere. The range and quality of the food is excellent food and the evening was great value for money.
A great welcome, wonderful food , including brilliant kebabs. Good wine. Attentive service without being intrusive. Lots of charm and no pretensions. An excellent neighbourhood restaurant.
Delicious food and friendly service. The house wine was surprisingly nice and the price was not cheap, but reasonable. Not sure what else i can say... will definitely be going back!
It's really a gem. The food is outstanding, the staff friendly and the service fast. There is always a nice athmosphere. To top it up, the prices are absolutely reasonable.
I had made a reservation online but called half and hour later to confirm they had received the booking because we wanted the table in about an hour and a half's time, so considering the short notice I wanted to just double check. I was glad they managed to confirm the online reservation and was very helpful and friendly. Upon arrival, the same person I spoke to on the phone greeted us and was again very friendly and helpful. However, while we did get our drinks quite quickly (the restaurant was quite empty at that point) we did not get the usual complimentary bread and dipping sauces at the beginning but we didn't bother with asking them for it but we wanted the sauces for our meal. Once our meal had arrived we flagged down the waitress to ask for the sauces and she examined our table and looked surprised that we did not receive the complimentary bread at the start which to us would have been a bit obvious considering that we were sat in the middle of a small restaurant where they walked passed regularly. The table next to us received their bread and sauces after their drinks arrived so the service was a not consistent. It did get a little busy once our meal had arrived but it wasn't a full house yet no one came to ask us if we wanted any more drinks. Another gripe was that my sister ordered a grilled halloumi cheese but they had forgotten about it and half way through our meal, she had to ask them for it and by the time it had arrived, it was way too salty and we have had halloumi cheese before on many occasions and it had never been that salty. Overall, staff are friendly and the food is OK, we all got the Levante mixed grill special for 2 (there were 3 couples as well as kids) and there were plenty of food, however, I won't be returning anytime soon due to the inconsistent service as friendly as they were it was way too disorganised.
Have nothing bad to say about this resturant, lovely friendly staff and great atmosphere. If you have a problem with anything they always do their best to resolve it and leave happy. The only Turkish retsurant I would recommend. Be back soon!
