Maxi's - York

Food great, as ever. But the service is going backwards. It used to be terrible, then it got much, much better, and now it's slipping back again. Drinks don't get offered, and when ordered take ages to arrive. Food takes too long to get ordered. And I'm not sure the new set of waiting staff really care very much, especially compared to those who have been at Maxi's for years who are quick and efficient. Still, the wonderful food makes it worthwhile going, despite that!

Excellent food and service. Travelled quite a distance for a family meal and well worth it. Fantastic.

We visit here regularly and always enjoy however on this occasion we were very disappointed. We were a party of 4 celebrating 2 of the party's birthday it started OK service was a bit slow but starters arrived no problem here we all enjoyed, we then waited for our mains which started to arrive in dribs and drabs. One of us had what he had asked for the other 3 of us were served our meat dish but no rice, they were very apologetic and scurried off to sourt. We waited and waited and it never did turn up!!! Two of us started to pick at the meat dishes during our half hour wait for the rice the other had a curry so didn't touch the dish at all, the worst of it is though it was his birthday and he went home very hungry and very disappointed. They did reduce our bill but now that I think about it we paid 50% of the dishes that we had hardly touched now that I think about it I am unhappy with our reduced bill of £60, and will definitely think twice about booking again.

Des pite our party being quite large the staff did their best to take care of us and the fo od was exc ell ent.

As usual an excellent meal,food always good and tasty. Staff attentive and nothing too much trouble.hVe been using maxis at York a and Leeds for many years and always enjoy. It’s great to be able to book online.

Friendly service and lovely food. Nice atmosphere too. It is our favourite Chinese restaurant in the area so we often recommend it too fiends and family.

The atmosphere was fun and it was an enjoyable evening, The food was good and overall it was very good value. certainly would go again

Service was slow, satay lamb was not a satay lamb, never been near a peanut, woke up with a throat full of MSG, very disappointed this time around.

Have been here several times. Usually great. Unfortunately tonight was a shambles. Order taken wrong. Asked 3 diff people to sort it!!! Then it was luke warm . Then went to pay and they gave us wrong bill!! . Not great.

A little bit chaotic as it was New Years Eve and the age range of our party was from 4 to 83 years. Trying to get the bill took rather a long time. The food though was excellent, and we will definitely rebook again .

Food excellent and very filling. Set menu good value for money and very tasty.Friendly service with a smile. Will definitely go again in the near future.

We went to Maxi’s on Xmas ever and it was really nice,the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent too.Its decorated with lots of Chinese art and decor to make you feel you’re in china.we will definitely be going again.

They tried. Just not hard enough. The dishes were served mixed up and though I had a dish with chilli & black bean sauce, it was very bland. The ladies toilets were a mess - no toilet paper, sink sprayed water everywhere, hand dryer not working & no paper towels. Overall quite disappointing. Won't be going again.

Excellent food, and a good choice for the Friday set meal, they made a special dish for our small grandchild. Very friendly and attentive staff.

A very enjoyable meal. The food was delicious as always and the service excellent. The staff are always attentive but without rushing you through your meal. Thoroughly recommend.

Food was great as always. Probably one of the best Chinese in York. Staff were fast and efficient. Still a little expensive, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Family gathering of 8. Greeted and welcomed at door and shown to our table which was very well positioned plenty of space and under good lighting. Drinks, ordered so we had something to sip as we studied the menu. After an acceptable time we were asked to give our orders, starters and mains were ordered and a couple of questions were answered / explained by the very helpful lady who served us, she double checked the orders reading them back to us. All the dishes arrived in good time and perfect temperature we all really enjoyed our meal and the serving staff were attentive throughout. Highly recommend anyone who wants a good quality Chinese meal, good portion sizes and reasonably priced, to visit this restaurant I know we most definitely will.

Lovely food and great service. The staff are so happy and friendly. We had a really nice evening for my daughter's birthday. Thank you very much!

Decent food shame about the couple arguing constantly for an hour at the table next to us run ed our night staff did nothing at one point a woman was trying to stab her own arms

Best prawn crackers I have ever tasted anywhere. The rest of dinner was very good too. Slightly spoiled by the steel tea-pot and concrete cups for the china tea, but that is a very minor criticism.

food is amazing. we booked online for 9pm only to be told when we arrived 'we close at 10, we've been open since 12' on line the closing time says 10pm.

Table ready, as requested. Great Chinese food, served in authentic setting. We hadn't been for a few years, but were pleased things were the same.

Great food. Amazing building. Can't fault it. It's a really nice place to go for a special meal. It's always been my family's go-to restaurant for special occasions.

Delicious food served - eventually - in larger portions than many other places. If we go there again, we won't order quite as much, and we will allow ourselves some extra time to allow for the rather slow service. Reasonably good value for money.

Exceptional service, food well presented, hot and delicious. Have eaten there a number of times. The staff are very polite and are readily available if required.

Without doubt, the best quality Chinese food ever tasted. Quantity has to be seen to be believed. Helpful, happy staff. Our second visit to York and we used Maxis on both occasions. Recommended.

Good food but staff and service a little poor And because it was Sunday afternoon atmosphere was lacking Drinks were a little expensive Overall a good experience

Food was good and prompt even though busy, service tailed off a bit howevee and took 20 mins to get attention of the waitress to get the bill. Apart from that had great meal.
