Located within a pakora’s throw of Bristol’s iconic landmark of The Arches, at the buzzing borders of St Andrew’s, Cotham and Montpelier, Oh! Calcutta! is setting up a hue and cry to exile substandard subcontinental cuisine from the city. Even before you get to the superb food, this Indian restaurant’s premises along Cheltenham Road are a sight for sore eyes. An open kitchen lets you see – and smell – what’s in store, while crimson-hued walls and an overall industrial chic look make for a less-than-usual venue in which to enjoy South Asian cuisine. A fantastic selection of tandoori classics rubs spicy shoulders with an exceptional selection of specific regional Indian dishes. Special note: if you like it hot, we dare you to step up from the already fiery, ‘3-chilli rating’ jalfrezi and chilli Bengal to the thermonuclear ‘Oh! Phall’, combining habaneros and dry chillies for a ‘6-chilli rating’.
Great food, great service and a refreshing decor - more Bollywood than traditional UK Indian Restaurants. The food, rice, sauce and breads were all delicious. Would visit again.
Great food and great service. Like the fact that it is BYO. It is good value. I had a chicken dansak which was delicious. Lovely.
Friendly people fantastic tasty indian food best I had in years and I eat indian alot! So totally recommend this place great location for a drink after you can sit and people watch the greatest road in bristol!
Fantastic service and very fast, food was well presented and tasted really good! The staff where so attentive and welcoming, thank you for a lovely evening
Great food and some different selections compared to other Indian restaurants. BYO (although it is still licensed, so you can purchase drinks if you have not brought your own) so brings the overall bill way down and very friendly service.
The food was very nice and fresh but we had to wait 70 mins the main dish to arrive. It was a busy night with take-outs (a good sign) but the staffing needed to be increased.
Didn't get our food for almost an hour and we got overcharged for no reason and the manager was willing to change the price even though we all split the bill in quarter but I ended up paying more
