Hit Pinocchio’s between 5pm and 7pm Mondays through Thursdays and for lunch between noon and 2pm Mondays through to Saturdays and you can take advantage of the restaurant’s excellent value special menus, offering two-course meals at three different price points – garlic mushrooms on toasted ciabatta, homemade pate and chicken and asparagus risotto, or melanzana alla Parmigiana and seafood tagliatelle, just for example. This is an excellent way to become familiar with what many have come to regard as their regular when it comes to Italian restaurants in Newcastle’s city centre.
Pinocchio’s Westgate Road restaurant is rustic and welcoming, with walls adorned with large murals depicting the story of the puppet boy with the nose that grows each time a lie is told. There’s a certain irony in naming the restaurant after the fable, considering that the terms ‘authentic’ and ‘genuine’ come to mind rather than ‘disingenuous’, and indeed you can expect regional Italian dishes that are true to their roots at this Newcastle city centre eatery.
