Reginella

Every weekday, Reginella lays on a grand lunch special for the good people of London’s Greenwich. Join the queue down Woolwich Road (or skip it if you’ve done the right thing and made a booking) and accept Reginella’s generous offer of a fine, traditional Italian pizza pomodoro or pizza bianche with the appropriate humility, and be pardoned from your daytime sobriety with a goblet of fine wine on the house. All of these delicious discs come with fresh basil and as much liberally-drizzled olive oil as you could wish for. If not pizza, and whether or not its lunch or dinner, Reginella’s menu reads like a royal charter dedicated to Italian cuisine.

Delightfully simple and classically structured, Greenwich’s Reginella begins, as it should, with starters such as simple pane to break bread with your friends olive oil and balsamic, or more elaborate entrees like the o cuoppo e terra or o cuoppo e mare, selections from land and sea respectively, with arancini, melanzane, and zucchine, or calamari, prawns and whitebait, perfect for sharing between a gaggle of chattering courtesans. Authentic primi and secondi piatti are similarly, deliciously restrained, with enough vegetarian, vegan, and organic options to enthrone Reginella as something of an exception among London’s many Italian eateries. Ruling the restaurant roost in appropriately humble fashion down Woolwich Road, let us declare: long live Reginella!
