Hull is home to eateries that cater for all tastes, from curry houses to Chinese restaurants, Italian and French and, of course British. If what you are looking for, however, is Caribbean cuisine in Hull, then the name of the game is Roots Bar on Newland Avenue. They’re in the heart of The Avenues, one of the prime dining drags in Hull, and when you arrive, you’ll be met with a classically Jamaican menu: the iconic jerk spice marinade can be applied to ribs, belly pork, shrimp and, of course, chicken, and there is also curried goat, patties stuffed with beef, salt fish or vegetables, and even a few vegetarian options like veggie curry and arawak veggies in a rum, coconut and pineapple sauce. Make the move to The Avenues and then stop when you hear the reggae – that’ll be Roots Bar, and they will be waiting to serve you.
