More about the restaurant: Salt and Liquor
It’s about time Ormskirk got itself a taste of rusticated American bar bites and bootleg liquor, and a lucky strike that it’s courtesy of the same folks who brought Liverpool punters The Baltic Social. Here in the town centre, the former premises of Cafe Bar along Derby Street have been pared back to expose bricks and mortar, stylish new fittings fitted, and the rooftop recrafted into a fantastic open-air terrace. The lot’s been given a spit and polish complete with a menu of Southern US-style street food and a long list of crafty beers, fine wine, and lively spirits.

Not many savour Mondays, but Ormskirk locals are avidly licking their chops thanks to Salt & Liquor’s half-price Monday madness, with 50% off all items on the main menu. And what an all-American menu it is. Taking its cues from the same group that brought Liverpool the famed Baltic Social, Salt & Liquor’s contribution to the town centre’s small vibrant bar and restaurant scene is all about Deep Southern American flavours and textures, with spiced pork scratchings, guacamole, pulled pork nachos and loaded fries perfect with a pint of craft beer. Bigger bites are to be had from the small eats and starters selection, but if it’s a hefty appetite you’re hoping to satisfy, you need to think large.
Burritos, tacos and burgers are the three pillars that support Salt & Liquor’s hunger-busting philosophy, backed by fries, sides and salads for balance. Go vegetarian with the halloumi and mushroom burrito, served Mexican style wrapped in foil, do a dance with Chinese fusion and order up the crispy duck burrito dressed in hoisin sauce or fill it with authentic Cajun steak. Classic American eats continue with the Californian, Gooey Louie, or Punisher burgers, all including house-made 6oz beef patties and served in a brioche bun with a Salt & Liquor’s secret sauce. A welcome addition to Ormskirk town centre, find Salt & Liquor – rooftop terrace and all – down Derby Street, on the corner with Railway Road just moments from the station.
