It’s like entering another works and a lovely peaceful escape time. Loved the decor, a very one off place. Friendly and welcoming and Sunday lunch was so tasty, never found one I like more than home cooking but this one hit the spot. Will definately tetirn and try other selections.

Terrible experience, waited over an hour for mains, we ran out of time for dessert after just over 2 hours and only having mains, still charged for 2 courses and they tried to charge for additional drinks that we never ordered or had. The main course was meant to come with cauliflower cheese, this was not provided and it wasn’t till we asked that they said they had run out. No alternative was offered. We had 2 dishes the same, 1 come with a Yorkshire and 1 didn’t??? It’s a shame as the food is good, but the service and standards really let this place down

Unfortunately everything seemed a bit unorganised and when enquiring about the children’s meals the waiting staff weren’t able to answer our questions and had to go off and check and this happened about 5 or 6 times. We waited a long time for our starters and the portions weren’t consistent as some people that had the same meal had much larger dishes. When our main meals arrived the portions seemed tiny and some of it was cold. The adults roast dinner wasn’t much bigger than the child’s roast dinner. We asked where the other dishes were that were included in the meal as stated on the menu and the waiting staff returned to tell us that they had run out. I then asked to change the dish as what was missing was what my son wanted to eat. Initially they offered me broccoli as a replacement but when they could see I was dissatisfied they said that they could make my son some pasta. Again desserts arrived and were different sized portions and on numerous occasions we had food brought to our table that wasn’t ours as the waiting staff didn’t seem to know what was going on. We received menus that were clearly their mother’s day menus from the previous week stating mums could return for a free lunch with their bill. I had arranged the meal for my mums birthday and it was expensive for what we received. My husband said the toilets were dirty and where we were seated there were cobwebs everywhere. I appreciate the restaurant is quirky but I won’t be returning to San Fairie Ann which is a shame as I have visited previously for afternoon tea and have always been really pleased up until now.

We’ve been coming here for years, including a Christmas Day lunch covering 4 generations of family. So despite the board outside stating Sunday dinner was available until 7pm, at 3pm (with a booked table), we were told they’d “sold out” of cauliflower cheese, even though the menu stated it was part of the Sunday roast. Then, the dinner turned up borderline cold, with just 2 reheated old potatoes and minimal gravy! On the plus side, the last time we went there (around 4pm on a Sunday), we were actually told the reason for the strange gravy was our fault for going late! To be (kind of) fair, having downed the cutlery, for a few minutes before managing to attract someone’s attention, the plates were taken away and replaced with food that was hotter. Still, given choices of places to go on a Sunday, and despite this being within a few minutes walk, I’d be very, very reluctant to give this place yet another chance. Really sad to have to say this. But I can honestly say that we’ve had both our best ever Sunday roast out, and our worst, at San Fairie Ann.

One of my favourite restaurants, it never lets me down. Delicious food, great cocktails and fab atmosphere. It was a very busy night on Saturday but as we had an early booking it was to much of an issue, the service was good and the team so friendly and professional. See you soon

Since revamping the cafe I feel they have lost a lot of the intimate quirkiness that we enjoyed. However, the surroundings are still pleasant enough. The food was dished in an attractive manner. There was an odd flavoured piece of fruit that I couldn't determine, on my chocolate torte. (It tasted rather like perfumed soap), The waitress was attentive and polite. We have previously visited for coffee, and always fancied trying a meal. Sadly were weren't as blown away as we expected to be.

Fantastic place to eat and drink. Have never been disappointed with the quality of food and service. You really do get treated as though you're very special when you dine at San Fairie Ann. I have celebrated my 40th and 50th birthdays in the beautiful basement room and when my 60th comes along, I plan to return. The quirky, chic and stylish interior is a wonderful setting for dinner for just two, or with a group. Amazing food at a really good price makes San Fairie Ann the best restaurant in Southend in my opinion.

Lovely quirky restaurant with entertainment on a friday and saturday night. Only slight error was the young waitress arguing with us when we reminded her the condiments hadn't arrived. She said she hadn't heard us then argued that we wouldn't want all of them! Just admit you didn't hear - thought the customer was always right! Apart from that small slur the food was fantastic as usual. I have never seen this waitress before so guess she's new.
