Stovell's

Lovely dinner. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the overall experience.

We had a gin and tonic before our meal and there was a very limited choice of tonic waters available. A restaurant of this stature should be able to provide more choices for their patrons. When we had the g&t the entire bottle of tonic was poured into the glass for each patron. This presupposes that every person in the party wants the same strength of flavour. This was not the case. When had not been too the restaurant for a year but our waiter remembered us, which was very positive. Also was asked for a desert which was not on the menu and this was provided with out any demure. Over a we really enjoyed our lunch.

Have been to Stovells several times before, including Xmas lunch twice, and each time the food & service have been excellent, but this visit was outstanding in all areas. Food wonderful, service was efficient, attentive and friendly, the ambiance, comfort & ability to chat comfortably, without being overheard/hearing others, was much improved. The value was unbelievable.

Myself and my husband have visited stovells a number of times but were left very disappointed with this visit...to begin with our drinks at the bar had so much ice in them that with every mouthful we were having to crunch on ice rather than enjoy our drinks...we were led to the restaurant where our waiter was cold and not personable at all .... we were looking forward to cote de boeuf only to find out you only had five of them and they had already sold out ... why couldn’t you have gotten more in for a Saturday evening...we reluctantly went for beef wellington and were thoroughly disappointed. Although the meat was good there was a small teaspoon of duxelle which only lasted two mouthfuls, the pastry was not crispy and sat on a bed of roughly chopped mushrooms and wet cabbage...very unappetising, the duck fat chips came in the smallest bowl so we’re not a generous portion at all. When it came to the dessert it was wet upon wet upon wet with no crunch or texture..it was the coconut cheesecake deconstructed. We ordered coffees which used to come some small little treats but this time came with two small macaroons. Honestly attention to detail has gone and felt like we were in a different restaurant . This was supposed to be for my husbands 40th birthday and we left feeling very unhappy.

My beautiful wife ad I had a wonderful time at Stovell's. To us it's not just a meal, the journey to the restaurant, welcoming staff, attention to detail, friendly staff, ambiance and of course the food. See you all soon.
