The Beresford Arms

If you’re looking for a traditional pub with country dining and ensuite rooms available in the heart of Northumberland, you’d do well to pay The Beresford Arms a lengthy visit. The Beresford is housed in a handsome, 19th-century stone building in the lovely village of Whalton, 15 minutes drive west from Morpeth and a mere half hour north from Newcastle, and it’s out front of this community stalwart up on the main thoroughfare through town that the annual midsummer’s eve festivities take place, with Morris-dancing children, beer and a barbecue laid on by the proprietors. Day to day, expect a wide range of ales and wines, hearty British classics and, naturally, a fantastic Sunday roast, but also a number of themed-cuisine nights to keep the offerings nicely shaken up for this tavern’s host of regulars.
