Given the current climate surrounding COVID-19, many authorities are placing restrictions on social gatherings. In the best interest of everyone’s safety, we are continuously updating the availability of our partner restaurants to reflect these measures. We encourage people to still support the restaurant industry in other ways.Learn how
Enter as strangers, leave as friends. The adage is virtually chiselled into the lintel above the door of this country pub in North Cowton, located in the bucolic triangle between Darlington, Richmond and Northallerton. Here you can expect a traditionally warm Yorkshire welcome, the real ale to be properly cellared and poured, and the British pub grub to be comfortably called cuisine without being frivolous – soups and pies and other heartwarmers for winter, succulent chargrilled steaks (a top recommendation), or summer-fresh dishes when the days get longer. You’ll also find a good number of live music nights to complement the rigorously seasonal menu.
Disappointed it took three moves to find a table that did not wobble, My husbands steak & ale pie was a disappointment the outside meat was dry the plate was swimming in gravy the the pie crust was like cardboard. When my Husband mentioned the pie he was told the pie was homemade. After informing the chef of our complaint the waitress sad the Chef was sorry. The menu mentioned Carols curry but upon asking what kind of curry it was was told no curry on that night. We do not go out very often and were really sad that our evening was spoilt. We will not return.
Good quality food a service was fantastic throughout the evening, We had the salmon/rump steak/ fish and chips as mains and all extremely happy with these, but then wow the deserts are to die for meringue and fresh fruit/ Eton Mess were both the best tasting deserts in a long time, would highly recommend this place lovely all around
A very good service and surroundings. just one point; guests are usually shown to their seat before ordering their drinks. overall a very enjoyable evening.
