As per usual food was really good. Restaurant was quite busy so service was slower than usual. First time we've eaten there in the evening, really good atmosphere.

The tapas was excellant, both interesting and varied. Better than we had in Spain! The restaurant surrounds were pleasant and staff were very friendly. They have an extensive wine list. Had a great lunch.

Relaxed atmosphere, good food and friendly staff. All three wines we had were very good examples of their type and we will definitely look for them again. The meat and fish used was high quality and cooked well. It was a pleasant change not to have pretentious dishes , no sign of 'cooked three ways' , deconstructed or modernised food. Just good food and good wine served with a smile.

Met 2 retired work colleagues for lunch - have eaten here many times & it never disappoints. The menu is great - plenty of choice - delicious salads, tapas, hearty meals for the hungry. One of the particular pluses is the relaxed service - staff give you plenty of time to order & you NEVER feel any pressure to order more or leave. It's a very convenient venue being between the .Arts Centre & Theatre Royal - also close to St Andrews church, the Guildhall, the shops & bus services from Royal Parade.

Our meal was lovely and so was the service. No complaints in that area. My negative about the chancel is we were seated at the back of the restaurant in a part that looked like storage. Then walking down to the toilets was dimly lit and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The toilets were dirty with over flowing bins and no toilet roll. The downstairs restaurant is beautiful, please put your guest down there in future.

Staff was very knowledgeable regarding gluten free options & the risk of cross contamination. Very satisfied with the menu options and we all had a safe, delicious meal!

This was our second visit to the Chancel and once again, we were not disappointed. Lovely surroundings downstairs (although it was a particularly warm day and a fan might have been good!). I had the seafood platter, which was cooked to perfection. A really lovely meal.

I took my sister for a meal one evening during her stay with me, She is used to going to high-end restaurant s and she wasn't disappointed. The meal was great and the service matched the meal. We enjoyed it so much we went back for tapas the following day and another great meal, good portions good food. Would definitely recommend.

We love going to the Chancel. The owners are so welcoming and the food is fantastic. We were in the new area at the back and although there was sometimes a feeling that you had been forgotten, the service of the staff was outstanding and very friendly. Would we go back ...... of course, hoping to go for lunch over the next few weeks.

The Chancellor was a great experience. A family run business who were clearly working hard to offer great food and drinks. We had a fish stew with was very tasty, we also had a sea food platter which was well cooked and delicious. We were assisted in choice of wine by Neil, who took the time and trouble to suggest wines and provide tasters to help our decision making. We thoroughly enjoyed your evening at The Chancel.

Really lovely welcome for my son's graduation day lunch- they even bought him a card! The fig and almond bruscetta starter was delicious. Unfortunately we were time limited and driving but this would be a lovely place to relax over dinner with a good bottle of wine or two !

Gluten free was extensively covered and the food was excellent as was the service. They understood coeliacs issues with cross contamination and were able to give us confidence the food would be safe. We were then able to really enjoy the meal!

Lovely setting a nice relaxed atmosphere. The food we ordered was from the main menu and while it was all cooked well some of the food combinations could be somewhat questionable. The service we received was great and everyone was very helpful. The wine recommendations were great and it was a lovely touch that we were able to sample prior to purchase. An enjoyable evening overall.

Very pleased with the ambiance and the care shown by the staff. We will return. Very good wine selection. The food is cooked to your taste, not to someone else's (a well done steak is well done, no pink, but not shoe leather either). Reasonably priced.

Would be higher if we didn't get judged for not buying a bottle of wine and also chef/owner is clearly a heavy smoker as the food was a too heavily spiced. All in all though a good experience and would go back.
