I had to return my wine as it was undrinkable! I have never ever had to do that! My friend and I ordered chips but were given vegetables.! There were no choices of coffee which is very unusual. The staff were very pleasant. There were several dogs that were barking and being a nuisance. Also we weren’t offered a dessert menu - I presume that you do provide desserts? Anyway, sorry about the criticisms but I feel that you would rather know about problems so that you can rectify them. I will try again as I have always liked your establishment and hope that things will be put right Regards Christine Failes

Definitely worth a little detour. The main courses we had at The Chequers were excellent both in terms of quality and quantity. We had Red Snapper - which was on the specials board - and it was beautifully grilled; topped with prawns; and accompanied by chips and salad. Perfect!

Unfortunately we were seated right next to a couple who constantly smoked smelly roll up cigarettes which was unpleasant while we were trying to eat our lunch. There should be an area for smokers and non smokers, albeit we asked to be seated outside to be safer re. Covid. Perhaps suggest that smokers are on one side of the courtyard, and non smokers seated elsewhere?

What a lovely little pub. Friendly, attentive staff and a beautiful garden which we were lucky to be able to sit in the sunshine. My partner highly rated his carbonara. My toast was very good. Lovely vegetables. Only the tiniest suggestion is the roast potatoes could have been a little crisper, but we're very nice. Fantastic gravy. Will definitely return.

Cheerful staff but chef needs to break his meat up as it cooks both for chilli and lasagne

We visited on the first day that the pubs reopened after lockdown. On arrival, we gave our details and were shown to our reserved table which was well spaced out from other tables. The food was very good (burger and carbonara) however the drinks were a disappointment. I had three pints of Amstel and each one was completely flat when it was brought to me. When I mentioned this to the the person that served us, she said yes it must be because the glass was wet when the drinks was poured. In that case if you know what the problem is, then serve it in a dry glass.

Full of walkers and a few well behaved dogs. Muddy boots and wellies galore. Food excellent, value, excellent, service, excellent. Advice if you are going to eat there, always book a table.

Very helpful friendly staff that can cope with a party of friends all wishing to pay individually for their meals. Pub is in a lovely location and always a pleasure to stop here after a stroll along the sea wall.

Had a wonderful roast. A good sized portion and lovely fresh veg served on the side and not just dumped on the plate. I’m a fan of hot plates - mine wasn’t - so I’ll mention next time.
