The Malthouse

The food was ok, very average. Served by the assistants quite well but with no panache. Lovely soup bread bit of butter would have been good. Mains almost decent for price.2 tagines not looking too tempting, no moisture to it My burger was fine nothing to rave about. Pork belly ok. Fish and chips again ok chips looking overcooked. My friend asked for a slice on lemon with the fish , it came between the nails of the serving girl - not great. Puddings expensive for value level sticky toffee puddings. Surrounding quite chilly with little Christmas cheer. Just not sure about it really. As we were friends we had a good laugh. It was an experience.

Crispy pork belly - The pork belly was good, but impossible to break the “crispy” crackling. Fish & Chips - cooked well but haddock lack taste. Proper chips though !

We waited over 1 hour for our meals. 3 steaks cooked to perfection but the quality of all 3 steaks was very poor. The vegetarian of the group had very little choice, even more so when we were told that they had ran out of halloumi. The waiter asked if everything was ok with the meals. He was told of our disappointment regarding the poorly quality of the steaks. We were told that they were hit and miss at the moment. Shame we had 3 misses and had to pay full price for poor quality steaks.

Slow taking the order, staff un-knowledgeable.when the meals eventually arrived, two meals good, one average, one poor. Service was poor, even needed to remind staff about the sides. No one came back to see if the food was ok, or if we wanted more drinks. Paying was slow and made hard work by the staff. Could, and should have done a lot better

If I ever went again I wouldn’t order the Sunday roast it was awful. Yet the others had steak and said it was great!

The food was amazing. The starter of scallops was so tasty and the combination of flavours really worked. The service was good and friendly.

Really enjoyed our meal. Warm welcome, we were not rushed through the courses. Waitresses were very attentive. The food was well presented, hot & delicious, with very-generous portions, all at a reasonable price. We were visiting the area for a few days, so were not able to make a return visit, which we would definitely have done.

We have visited The Malthouse several time over the last few years. Atmosphere always good, especially on a Saturday evening, with live bands!

Food was good. The staff were good. Would eat here again if in the area.

Keenly priced but not exemplary food. Regular pub grub. Could do better.

Wonderful mixed grill freshly locally sourced produce and the best chips I've ever had!

Friendly staff , the table we were sat at was very small (plates and drinks touching, had to be careful not to knock things off the table).

Nice and friendly staff, good service, nice food. Only issue was that the beef was cut a little too thickly making it difficult to cut. A couple of the Yorkshire puds were overdone and too crispy (although mine was perfect). Thank you

Harv a really nice meal & atmosphere was good. Most of the staff were friendly except one of the waitresses who was clearly not happy to be there, she signed and looked very annoyed when asked for drinks and the bill by ourselves and the table next to us. Otherwise a lovely evening.

Very good atmosphere, good service, food and drink. Asked the waitress to allow 30 mins between starter and main which wasn’t a problem, nice to not be rushed through courses.

A busy restaurant with only 2 members of staff running around, there wasn't an issue with the time it took to bring out our meals but the waitress didn't want to bring out my husbands chips for his pie! Instead she bought out meals for two other tables when I had to shout for the waiter to fetch them who was very apologetic. (they weren't the best chips when arrived as they were overcooked as if they had been re-fried!!) Unfortunately we wasn't asked if we required any more drinks which were clearly nearly finished & we would of ordered another round but instead finished our meal & went to the Swan for another drink. The waitress was clearly not happy running around with orders so decided to stand at the bar chatting up a customer whilst the lad did all the work. The waiter in fact saved this restaurant by his pleasant manner Certainly wont rush to come back

Went with my husband and 7 yr old grandson. When you walk in the first impression isn't good but the staff are friendly and welcoming so it makes the place feel a little better. The food menu had plenty of options I had the beef Sunday lunch my husband the meat loaf which were excellent and good value for money my grandson had the chicken nuggets and they too we're good value for money also they were made from real chicken not processed. The dessert menu was limited but very enjoyable It was quite pricey compared to some places but we did enjoy the food

Great food but poor service. The waitresses were disorganised, inexperienced and unhelpful. This was a shame as this is not what I have experienced on previous visits to the Malt house and to the swan.

Excelent food and very friendly staff. Prices on average with the rest of the area (roughly £70 for a meal & drink for a couple). Would recommend and will visit again if I'm in the area.

The standard of food is not what it used to be and to pay £15.00 for a meal that you didn't enjoy is by my book, very disapointing.

I visit The Malthouse whenever I have guests and we are never disappointed. Although it was quite busy the service was good but not over attentive, The food was excellent and reasonable value. Overall a very enjoyable experience, as usual.
