One of Newport’s very first Indian restaurants way back in 1961, the New Lahore has outlasted younger neighbours thanks to a dedication to honest food made from fine ingredients. This philosophy is enforced by Mr. Khan, the New Lahore’s original head chef in the 1960s who is still preparing delicious dinners today. To taste the ripest fruits of Mr. Khan’s half century of labour, treat yourself to a house specialty like the exotic patila raz (flavoured with a dizzying mix of spices, garlic, butter, yoghurt, mint and coriander, among other things) or a face-melting Benghal jhal curry, a fiery concoction of green peppers and strong spices inspired by traditional Bangladeshi chilli sauces.
