About The Pompeii Steakhouse

Pompeii Steakhouse is unlike any other in Carlisle. You may be asking yourself, why the name Pompeii? That’s because this Abbey Street restaurant cooks their steak on volcanic stones. Thankfully, it’s safe eating at The Pompeii Steakhouse, and it’s a whole lot less dangerous than scaling Vesuvius. The steaks and the other menu items here are legendary – this steakhouse utilises Lakeland Beef, seasonal produce and artisanal local products in their offerings. In addition to steaks, The Pompeii Steakhouse offers seafood, salads and desserts to complement your food. Head to the historic quarter in the centre of town for an amazing meal at this local favourite, which is the only restaurant in Carlisle with a view of the Castle, which perfectly tops off what is sure to be a wonderful dining experience.

Really good experience. Staff were friendly and efficient and well motivated to provide great service. Food choice and quality was good. We weren't expecting the steaks to arrive on hot rocks though, which, whilst fun, made us wonder why we were asked how we'd like our steaks cooked. Within minutes of being served, all were well done as there was no space to put the meat to stop it being overcooked. I'd have preferred to receive the steak raw and on the side so I could cook it myself. Needs a bit more thought, maybe ... Overall, though, a great experience, well worth the money, and we'd happily return whenever we're back in the area.
