Excellent experience all round. The whole meal from start to finish was wonderful. We were pleasantly surprised by the bill as well. Definitely going again.

Fantastic restaurant! Great food, great service and great value! We visited for my son's birthday. We were greeted at the door and our table was ready for us when we arrived. The staff are friendly, the food is spot on and exeptional value. Highly recommended!

Nice meal as usual. Only downside this time was that some of the poppadums were cold and rubbery. Not lovely and crisp like they usually are. Other than that, very nice evening.

Enjoyed a lovely meal with the family. The younger members of staff were very helpful and friendly, not so the more mature staff! Unfortunately we found the noise levels too high, making it difficult to have a conversation, I did request for music to be lowered,which it was, but then turned up later! The food was good. There didn't appear to be any disabled toilet facilities, only one was upstairs.

Reception: blowsy woman and teenage son, friends of the staff, at the bar made sniggering comments about arriving customers. Service abrupt and charmless.

A return visit to The Raj and it was lovely as ever. The food is yummy and I like that their dishes, unless stated, are really tasty without the heat so my husband can have something other than a Korma! Highly recommend the Lamb Chaana Palak. My favourite. Well worth a try if you've never been.

Very good fresh food - service ok if a little rushed.

This is now our regular Indian restaurant every time we visit York - no trip is complete with dinner at The Raj. The service is always fantastic, everybody is very friendly and can’t do enough for us. The food is delicious and always outstanding. The Raj is one of our favourite things about York.

3 of us ate here and had an excellent range of dishes. All well cooked with good service. The prices were reasonable too.

We were a party of 6 visiting the Raj. When arrived we were quite concerned as there were no other guests in the entire restaurant, it was 8.30pm on a Sunday. However, within 15 mins all table were fully occupied, the atmosphere was great, service excellent and the food was superb. Highly recommended but don’t go too early :)

This is our second visit to the restaurant. We visited at Christmas time previously and were so impressed that went again whilst visiting York on a theatre trip. The food was just as good as on our first visit and the staff were friendly. Today was a bonus as the weather outside was hot and the restaurant was fully air conditioned.

We booked for Valentine's Day. The Meal was nice and the staff were polite.

Now one of the best Indians in York ! Great staff who make you feel very welcome and go the extra mile to make sure everything is 100% The food is freshly prepared and even when busy is always piping hot and very well presented.

The food and service is excellent. We had a lovely evening of top food and fun. The music was a little loud to start with but was turned down on request. My only tip would be that if you like spicy, you need to ask as I find their dishes mild but very tasty.

We enjoyed really good food, very tasty and good size portions. The service couldn’t be faulted and atmosphere nice and relaxed. We had a very enjoyable evening overall.

The star were sure, was not inviting. When we arrived, we was not welcomed. I booked the place for my wife s 40th birthday, and messaged them beforehand for something nice. This did not happened, and as an apology they gave her a small frozen piece of cake. Was highly disappointed. I will never ever recommend this place to anyone.

Had another lovely meal at The Raj tonight. Very yummy. It was great that my husband could have a mild dish that wasn't creamy. Although my dish was really tasty, it was supposed to be medium hot but was no hotter than my husbands mild dish. I didn't ask for it to have a kick as I assumed it would be. It was saved by being so tasty and the lamb was so tender. Also had a cold draft and nearly had to put my coat on. Would have been a definite score of 6 if it hadn't been for the lack of kick in my dish. I know to make sure I ask for this in future. I will definitely be back.

The food and service were both very good. Our only complaint is that the waiter refused to make our dish spicier than the menu indicated it would be. He said if it was too spicy we would not eat it, but being experienced Indian food diners, we thoroughly enjoy extra heat in our meals. Other than that, we would recommend this restaurant and hope to return one day.

Poor service. We were sat near a very large noisy group in a back room. Felt like they forgot about our booking even though i’d Spoken to them to confirm it earlier that day.

Lovely food and friendly service. Pretty good value too. They were particularly flexible when we arrived with a different number of guests too; it was no problem for them.

Quality food and service as always, best Indian in york for value and experience. Great atmosphere from a very well organised restaurant accomodating 7 of us and a 9 week old baby.

A return visit, lots of choice on the varied menu, everything chosen by our party of four was good quality and greatly enjoyed. The owner is delightful and pays great attention to the service of his customers.

Was sick within an our of eating here. The food tasted ok- nothing special, but would not go back after what it did to me shortly after!

This restaurant has excellent food. From the popadum accompaniments to the mains, rice and nan, everything was tasty and freshly prepared. Nice ambience too. Highly recommended.

We have visited the Raj restaurant many times over the year's and its still one of our favourite places to eat when we visit York the food and service are always spot on thanks again for a fantastic night
