The Rope and Bollard no longer exists. The restaurant has changed name and menu. Didn't like the fact I wasn't informed of the change. Didn't like the menu. You need to up date your information.

Lovely meal. Friendly staff. Great for a pre-theatre meal since Grand Opera House just next door. You can see your meal being cooked fresh, so be patient its worth it

Both the food and the service were lovely. We tried burgers and the salmon. Would recommend it as a great place for a pre-theatre meal.

Food ok, hit and miss. Very slow. Friendly staff. Had a money off voucher to use, so not too bothered, but wouldn't have been very happy if paying full price!

Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the meal at all in an empty restaurant with warm wine and no ale available on tap. Canned ale was offered but the wrong one was provided, my husband drank it anyway, the standard of the food was up to the quality we like or expect

We were greeted at the restaurant by a nice waitress who showed us to our table in the window and left us with the menus to make our choice. There was only one other table for 4 in the restaurant. Despite being empty, we were not offered drinks until she came back around 10 mins later to take our order. I ordered the duck. Sorry it's not available I'll have the salmon then please. Again... not available. Oh and the fillet steak is also off the menu. Why were we not advised BEFORE we poured over the menu and made our choices? Why were we not offered drinks as soon as we were seated. It's not that the restaurant was busy. I can review the food as we decided to go elsewhere. Plenty of choice in York. This place needs to try much harder. On a different point, some reviewers liked the decor. Personally I found it extremely drab and boring and the place had absolutely no atmosphere. I'd be surprised if it's lasts beyond the current lease! It's a shame. We like to support new business in town but this is one I won't be hurrying back to.
