A British country pub overflowing with every bit of nostalgic charm that image conjures up, The Tavern on College Road in Denstone is something you couldn’t recreate. Cosy, welcoming and friendly, it’s ideal for warming up at the bar with a pint or settling in for a hearty pub meal. This is no ordinary British pub meal, though, with a strong dedication to fresh produce and local Staffordshire suppliers resulting in genuine quality, a difference from other pubs that you don’t really have to be told – you can taste it at The Tavern, Denstone’s local.
A lovely pub and excellent food with a very nice atmosphere. Would definitely go again.
We came to town to visit Alton Towers so don’t know the area well. We where recommended to visit The Tavern and we weren’t disappointed at all. The staff where so friendly and professional. The atmosphere wasn’t great and the food was amazing. Cooked to perfection. If we where ever in the area again we would definitely visit again.
Great meal with friends. We love The Tavern. Food is good and staff friendly. Sunday lunch is bang on.
Found just down College Road from the post office, with Denstone All Saints Church within view and gorgeous open countryside around, The Tavern is the dreamy British pub people think are a thing of the past. However, despite its charming, ivy-clad exterior and historic stone walls, you realise as soon as you peruse hands-down Denstone’s best menu that there is nothing outdated about The Tavern. Championing fresh British produce and supporting Staffordshire producers, The Tavern is right at the cutting-edge of contemporary cuisine, with some superb grub to go alongside real ales, fine wines and other offerings from the bar.
Sitting in The Tavern’s sunny beer garden or chic, contemporary conservatory, you might catch sight of Denstone delivery men arriving to College Road – the local butcher provides meat, vegetables arrive fresh every day, and the finest fresh fish is all you’ll find on The Tavern’s plates. British classics are well represented, including a hearty cottage pie with seasonal Staffordshire vegetables, beer-battered cod with real chips and mushy peas, or The Tavern’s mouthwatering slow-cooked lamb shank with mash and mint jus. There’s also a huge grill menu, daily changing vegetarian special and plenty of small plates to share at the bar, from crispy whitebait to chicken liver parfait.
