The centrepiece of Volare’s Bowes Road restaurant is the traditional, wood-fired oven that talented head chef and David and his team of pizzaioli use to turn out perfect Neapolitan pizza made using daily-made dough that’s spun out with all the theatre appropriate to an eatery that might as well be on the streets of Naples rather that Bounds Green in London. All the classic bases are covered, so to speak – margherita, marinara, Napoletana – with house signatures like the huge meat or vegetarian Vesuvio that you’re going to need company to finish off.
Besides being a beloved Bounds Green pizzeria first and foremost, Volare also create a good amount of straight up Italian restaurant fare, with fantastic salads and homemade pasta dishes making an appearance on the menu. The restaurant itself is inviting in terms of decor and makes for a warming place to sit up with a glass of beer or wine. Expect neutral tones, exposed beams and some interesting Italian-style rockery. A little gem of London, this is.
