Ametsa, abbreviated from the enigmatic Ametsa With Arzak Instruction, is a one Michelin Star Spanish-Basque restaurant headed up by award-winning chef Alena Arzak. Along with her father, the (award-winning) New Basque cuisine master Juan Mari Arzak, Alena Arzak brings Spanish haute cuisine to the luxurious COMO The Halkin hotel on Halkin Street in London’s beautiful Georgian district of Belgravia. Needless to say, Ametsa is a winning combination.
Ametsa has rightly earned its Michelin star, tutoring London in the ways of the New Basque cuisine revolution spearheaded by Ametsa’s collaboration with Juan Mari Arzak. His flagship restaurant, Arzak in San Sebastian, holds three Michelin stars, while his colleague and daughter Elena Arzak won Restaurant magazine’s Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef award in 2012. With these stellar credentials we can affirm that Ametsa, located in COMO The Halkin hotel in London’s Belgravia, is a one-of-a-kind Spanish restaurant. We can also confirm a strong genetic predisposition towards world-class Basque cookery amongst the Arzak clan.
The decor at Ametsa is stunning. By London’s Ab Rogers Design, features like a spice-filled, wave-shaped ceiling and an idiosyncratic angled oak floor ready you for the ecstatic culinary experience ahead. It’s wise to opt for Ametsa’s tasting menu if you’re uninitiated into the pleasures of Basque cooking. This way you can explore an incredibly curated selection of dishes that are in equal parts beautiful and delicious. The first forkful feels blasphemous, like you’ve desecrated a sculpture, but from then on it’s a heady journey through the earthy, seasonal flavours of Spanish Basque cuisine given a bold, contemporary spin. The Halkin by COMO The Halkin hotel, along Halkin Street in London’s gorgeous district of Belgravia, has certainly scored a major coup by bringing the delights of San Sebastian to London.
Amazing food. Exceptional service. We went for the tasting menu, my fiancé had the pairing wines too great portion size and knowledge on each. It was my fiancé birthday and they surprised him with a dish at the end.
I've been a regular customer of Ametsa since the restaurant opened and I'm very happy to write that this recent dinner was as excellent as ever!!
Just wonderful. The menu descriptions are a bit playful, mysterious, and require a bit of explaining, but all were good. Pork secreto was our favorite
This michelin star restaurant is an incredible experience. Small inside but adds to the atmosphere, the service from the staff is hands down the best service I have ever experienced. The food is amazing, every little element has been careful thought about and cooked and it comes across when eating. It's expensive but if you're looking to celebrate a special occasion then go for Amesta!
My visit last week was impeccable. I am impressed with the services and my expectation after reading some reviews were exceeded by the genuine care and of course the delicious and impressive food presentation. I will be back!
An outstanding creative restaurant with high-quality food and service. The wine pairing was good too. I especially love the desserts of the tasting menu because it is really different and carefully cooked. First time there and best experience!
It was a great experience. The menu was very tasting and the service simply perfect. They explain you every plate and you can enjoy the experience.
I have tried 3 staters. The best was Fois with Corn. As for the main dish Ox and Cork was delicious. At the end I had Orange toast. It was fantastic!
Excellent food but service is a bit slow over the lunch period. They forgot about us for about 20 mins before we got our coffee at the end of the meal.
Every Visit in Ametsa is a great experience in food & eine. Like this Restaurant as one of the best in London with excellent Service
