Thai cuisine is hard to do justice, because the culinary diversity from the northern hills to the southern islands is so vast. However, Bangkok Bistro in Penrith is one place that gives it as good a shot as any Thai restaurant in Cumbria. Guided by the recipes and time-honed skills of chef Wanlapha McGregor, Bangkok Bistro boasts a menu showing influences from all regions of Thailand, occasionally given a twist and being adapted to locally sourced, fresh Cumbrian ingredients. The main house specialties, though, would have to be delicacies from the northeast of Thailand, where chef McGregor grew up, so be ready for a few intriguing spicy jaew pastes and sticky rice dishes alongside the classic favourites like red and green curries and pad Thai. Found on Poets Walk in the heart of Penrith, Bangkok Bistro is as authentic a Thai eating experience as you’re likely to find anywhere around the Lake District.
Bery lovely service and great food, It was B est Thai food I've eaten in Cumbria by far. I would definitely eat at the Bangkok Bistro again. Thank you!
Food was really very good apart from the sticky rice which was inedible, however after alerting the staff it was quickly discounted from our bill
Great restaurant with lovely food. A good selection of dishes and friendly staff. A bit off the main road but worth a short detour if you are looking for good Thai food.
