There are plenty of places to pick up a curry in the UK – in fact, the humble Indian restaurant is about as popular as they come in the hearts of the majority of British punters – and if you’re in Yorkshire, then you’re close to some of the finest in the country. Wetherby might be a little away from the hubs of Bradford and Leeds, but the standard at Bengal Brasserie is as good as any around, with a stylish location on the banks of the River Wharfe, a licensed bar and an Indian and Bengali menu that includes both traditional dishes and regional delicacies. You can try tandoori dishes like lamb tikka and seekh kebabs, classic curries from mild kormas through medium dishes like rogan josh and all the way up to a fiery vindaloo. We’d go for the house signatures though, from the special Naga chilli chicken – with Bengali chillies – to the lamb kushbuder, in a spicy sauce with cardamom, garlic, cinnamon and bay leaves. The evening was superb : the service was exceptional, the food excellent and the atmosphere the best of any restaurant in Wetherby. The Bengal Brasserie on ALL counts is highly recommended. Philip Makin

We had a pleasent and efficient welcome and although slightly early our table was ready. The menu was comprehensive and the food excellent. Service was prompt, with drinks and food served with a smile. Try the Indian cider!
