Buen Ayre is a single-fronted restaurant on Broadway Market in Bethnal Green. The restaurant is tiny – the dining room is lined on one side of the room with tables bunched together. There’s a reason for the squeeze though, and the reason is in the kitchen. The head chef John Rattagan moved to London from Argentina in 1990 and cut his teeth as grill chef at the Duke of Edinburgh in Brixton. Having proved his skill in Brixton, he opened Buen Ayre at the end of 2004 and has been delighting his diners since then.
The team at Broadway Market are fanatical about beef, be it carpaccio, filet or one of their many sharing plates, there is red meat galore at Buen Ayre. The tiny restaurant operates a strict two sitting policy in the evening and takes no-shows seriously. If you choose to head over to Buen Ayre for one of their excellent steaks or vegetarian dishes (yes, they cater to veggies!) a reservation is an absolute must, and if you will be delayed for any reason, please contact the restaurant in the first instant – this really is a tiny place!
