Swindon locals are raving about Connies Chinese Restaurant, and for good reason: the food there is as authentically Chinese as it gets, made using all-natural ingredients and time-honoured recipes. The service at this local favourite is friendly and personable, creating an atmosphere that’s relaxed and inviting for guests of all types. Popular dishes at Connies – found on Devizes Road in the Old Town – include the chicken chow mein, the sweet & sour chicken, the crispy aromatic duck, the fried mussels in black bean sauce and the barbecued spare ribs. The restaurant also offers some great dim sum – try the steamed red bean buns, the steamed vegetarian shao mai or the fried pork dumplings. The restaurant offers several more fantastic options – book a table in advance and see for yourself what all the fuss is about.
It was 11 years between visits, as we have been living in Asia all that time. The food was very good, just like being back in Asia and that is hard to say about some places. Its a buffet style menu where you can pick what you want to eat, but better as its all freshly cooked just for you and not just left on heating plates, if you go then go hungry as the portions are good - and if you don't eat it all then get it to take away.
I attended Connies with my wife yesterday evening. We both had a hugely enjoyable time and were made to feel extremely welcome by Chloe, Zayn and, of course, Connie herself. I also had the pleasure of meeting Connie's chef husband in the kitchen which was absolutely spotless. At £15 a head for an "all you can eat" meal of extremely high quality, I would highly recommend Connies to anyone with a discerning palette who wishes great value for money without breaking the bank.
