Côte Restaurant Exeter

The restaurant is in a beautiful area and a lovely view of the Cathedral. I booked our table on the internet and it was simple to do. It was very busy when we got there but the lady that greeted us was very friendly and made conversation with us while taking us to our table, which is where the problems began. I am a disabled lady that finds walking and climbing stairs very painful, and my mother is elderly who also finds stairs a struggle. So when the lady headed towards steep metal stairs I was very disheartened, the lady was already half way up the stairs before we had a chance to ask for a lift, but as it was my mothers birthday and I could see from looking around that there wasn't anywhere else for us to sit we had no choice but to put on a brave face and climb up them . Once we were seated another lady came straight over with the drinks menu, but then it took over 15 minuets before anyone came over to take our drinks order and that was only because I managed to catch her eye, but as I mentioned it was very busy both upstairs and down stairs, so that can be forgiven. The rest of the time everything was very nice, we had a nice lunch, the food was good, but maybe not worth the price tag it comes with, again that could have been because the kitchen was flat out. My son who has been there before a few times, said that the food was much better on those occasions , so maybe it was a 1 off. My only really big problem is that they automatically put a rather large service charge on the bill, So after spending way over £100 on a lunch meal, we then felt that we had to pay the extra £24 tip. Which if everything had of been perfect we would of happily given that amount as I believe good service should be rewarded . But being made to feel like we had to, no matter what the service and overall experience was is a little off putting .I have to give the servers their due, they were all very sweet and we never felt rushed or that anything was too much trouble for them. All things said my mother had a lovely time and enjoyed her birthday meal. We would definitely go there again but would called them directly and ask to be seated down stairs and maybe at a least busy time of the day.

Have been here before and weren't disappointed. Had told them it was our 40th wedding anniversary, and were given a great table and free aperitif, which was a nice touch. Lovely food and good service. Very authentic French food - could easily have been in a genuine French bistro!

Very pleasant and attentive staff. We weren't in a hurry to leave and we didn't feel rushed which was lovely. Quality of food was as usual- delicious. All in all a lovely dining experience. Thank you!

Steak, although saying "served pink" was overcooked on 3 attempts. As my husband had nearly finished his meal I kept the third offering. To be fair the manager didn't charge us and because of this I would go there again. Just not order the steak.

Good service and very nice food - always an enjoyable experience. Pleasant, helpful, friendly staff who are always happy to please. Set menu always interesting too - makes you try new things. Profiteroles are a MUST!

Excellent food and service as always. Will definitely be going back regularly for a relaxing and easy meal with the family. Staff are very accommodating and friendly nothing is ever a problem.

If only all meals out were as good as this. But I have to say more, but what more can I say apart from good night sweet prince

Sat upstairs on a lovely table by window with great view of the Cathedral. Excellent service made us feel very welcome and looked after, with nice touches.

As always a good experience, the staff are very professional and friendly not only in Exeter but all other of your restaurants we have visited. The food (great to have Veal back on the menu) was very well presented and as always the meal was of consistent quality.

Excellent food and service. It was a really relaxed atmosphere. We were seated by the window with lovely views of the Cathedral Green and the evening sunshine.

The food was good and the table great - by the window - thanks guys - but we had to nudge on that as the maitre d didn't seem to understand I had made a reservation and requested it - maybe be a bit more on the ball on this sort of thing, being in the hospitality industry myself it is always a win and take it where you can Thanks D

Excellent service, despite being busy. Food very good but would be so much better if veg or salad was included with the meal instead of having to ordered as a separate side order, which makes prices deceptive.

Good food and professional, friendly service, as we have come to expect from Cote in Exeter. The staff were aware of every aspect of our reservation, including pre-arranged drinks. We will definitely be returning.

The staff are excellent. I love the fact that I requested a table with a view of the cathedral and got it! No worries! Proper big linen napkins, not tiny pieces of white paper wrapped around a knife and fork. Luxury. Prices amazing! An excellent experience!

We think the Cote is the best place to eat in Exeter and we go there most weeks Excellent Staff and Yummy food!Always welcome...Such a lovely setting too!

Had to wait by the door for several minutes for a specific person to walk us to our table. There was no point to this as we didn't see him for the rest of the meal. Asked for Medium to Rare Steak, came almost Well done and was a bit chewy. Quite a wait between courses and when we had finished and table cleared, we were waiting at least 15 minutes before I had to call someone over to ask for the bill. Once we had the bill, we then had to call someone over to pay after another 10-15 minute wait. One thing that annoyed us most was the noise level of two different birthday groups, however this is not taken into account on my score as this is not necessarily in the staff's control. Was impressed with the Calamari and quite a substantial amount for a starter (This is by no means a criticism)! Overall, excluding the Steak, the food was okay, was let down by service.

Nice meal, busy restaurant but still managed to provide us with good service and quality food, I can definitely recommend this restaurant, chose the set menu which I think is good value.

My husband and I very much enjoyed our meal at the Cote in Exeter today. Food and wine were excellent value. Our only criticism, as always, is the noise level - it is almost impossible to have a conversation. We booked for a late lunch (1.30 pm) but it was still very busy. Of course, that is a good sign!!!

The meal we had at Cotes was up to its usual high standard, The service we received was efficient and friendly ,we shall look forward to our next visit to Cotes.

Great food & good value. Room looks inviting & has a real French brasserie feel. Views of Cathedral are great. Unfortunately, the whole experience was spoilt by the sound level. The upstairs room was very busy and it was so noisy our group of three found it hard to hear what each other was saying, which really detracted from the enjoyment of the evening. They'd improve the sound by carpeting the floor. We'd only go back on a quiet day/time.

Unfortunately the staff didn't really listen to the order and the wrong breakfast and type of coffee arrived! What we did get however was delicious and we enjoyed it. Some kind of communication problem obviously!

My wife and I have been to this restaurant many times and it hasn't failed us yet the meals are delicious and you can't fault the service.This restaurant is in an ideal and picturest location.

Great and attentive service, well cooked food, lovely location. Only issue was the noise level of the restaurant was very high, but that was everyone else there, not the restaurant's fault!

We had booked for an early meal before a concert in the cathedral. It coincided with the final graduation day, the end of the the school term and was a Friday. The restaurant was packed and we were a little late due to traffic problems, but the staff could not have been more friendly, helpful and keen to ensure we were served quickly, without being rushed. The food was very good, with enough choice for everyone to enjoy both the starter and main. We had a table upstairs and the only downside was it was very, very noisy. In every other respect this was a very good experience and we would certainly go back.

We love this restaurant and the happy helpful staff, we have dined at Cote Exeter for some time now and it never disappoints. Already looking forward to our next visit :-)

Love the food.Its always reliably tasty and served hot. Minor quibble was the noise level. It was a busy lunchtime but what a din. We could barely hear each other !

We had to move tables because of another reservation at 12noon. Food was excellent as was the service. Would certainly go again in the near future.

Set lunch very good, as was the service. Watch for the compulsory 12.5% gratuity on the bill as we nearly tipped again. Shame this was not optional as it's better for both sides to have the choice and reward freely.

We enjoyed the excellent value "Formule" breakfast menu. The full English breakfast was high quality with very tasty bacon and sausage. Scrambled eggs cooked beautifully. With fruit juice and hot drink included it is very well priced at £9.95. Staff were very polite and helpful.

We hadn't visited a Cote Brasserie before but definitely will do so again. The whole experience was pleasurable, with views over the Cathedral, lovely food and an excellent French host. The price wasn't too bad either. Great meal had by all.

As always Cotes delivers. Fantastic meal and exemplary service. Despite a very busy evening there was no waiting and all in a great setting. We love it here and can't wait to return.

We celebrated our daughter's graduation and were delighted to have an upstairs table with an excellent cathedral view. Service was friendly and attentive and the quality of the food was up to the usual high standard. The food was beautifully presented and generous portions. The restaurant atmosphere created a lovely celebratory experience.

Lovely setting by cathedral. Staff are really pleasant and helpful and food very good. We were two people and both chose from specials board, one meat and one fish dish both well cooked and presented.

As always a delicious meal with friendly staff. I regularly visit this restaurant and it never disappoints. The food is of good quality and caters for my friend who is gluten free. Other restaurants who claim to provide gluten free meals do not have such a wide choice as Cotes.

Fabulous dining experience as always. .Staff were friendly and very professional. Highly recommend the seafood linguine and the chocolate pot dessert. Great value & we plan to return soon!

As always very pleased with the service and quality of food. I chose the anniversary menu and it was extremely good value for money, I calculate the saving was about £8.00 on the al a carte menu.
